Water, river valleys and protected landscapes
The Seč Reservoir is considered the recreational center of the Chrudimsko-Hlinecko area and is also an important fishing spot. The Oheb Nature Reserve adds a striking feature to the landscape: it is a distinctive pine grove on a rocky promontory above the reservoir. This brings recreation, fishing and protected nature together in one place.
The landscape of the Železné hory protects its terrain, bodies of water, vegetation, wildlife and traditional settlement patterns. Along the Chrudimka River, you will also find forest ecosystems, flowering meadows and floodplains. The connection with nature thus extends from waterways and landforms to habitats and traditional settlement patterns. Routes among traces of settlements and nature
The Celtic Trail passes sites of early Celtic settlement around Hradiště and Nasavrky and runs through the valleys of the Chrudimka, Debrný and Krkanka rivers. Along the way, you will encounter both historical traces of settlements and named river valleys. The Boiika lookout tower is open year-round, allowing you to plan your visit in any season.
The Krajem Chrudimky educational trail offers a different route: it begins at the source of the Chrudimka near Svratouch, passes through Hlinsko and the Seč Reservoir, and ends in Chrudim. Its sequence of starting point, places along the way and destination makes the route easy to follow. The routes differ clearly: the Celtic Trail leads to settlement traces and through valleys, while Krajem Chrudimky is defined by its source, stops along the way and final destination.
Museums with distinct focuses
The Hippological Museum in Slatiňany explores horses from many angles. Its subjects include the development and history of the horse, anatomy and breeding, social uses, art, transport and sport. Saddles and harnesses add examples of specific equipment. This allows you to consider the horse not only as an animal, but also in historical, practical and cultural contexts.
Švýcárna has a narrower focus: it is a museum of Old Kladruber horses, located on the way to Kočičí hrádek. Unlike the Hippological Museum’s broad range of subjects, this museum centers on one specific breed.
Betlém Hlinsko focuses on crafts and domestic life. It features log-built workshops and houses associated with weavers, toy makers, shoemakers, file makers and metal embossing. The buildings themselves highlight the connection between living and working spaces.
The Chrudim museum complex offers two different focuses: the Neo-Renaissance building is used for exhibitions by the Regional Museum in Chrudim; the Neo-Baroque building hosts cultural and social events, including concerts, symposiums and exhibitions. The history of technology and practical information
Veselý Kopec features a collection of water-powered technical monuments. These include a mill with equipment for making jam, a bark-crushing mill, an oil mill and a sawmill. The exhibits show how different types of machinery are connected to water power. A standard visit lasts 90 minutes, giving you a specific time frame to plan around.
