Otradov combines a scenic setting in the Krounka Valley with a distinctive local history: the Church of St. Bartholomew was built in 1349, and the village’s historical heritage includes a mill and traditional half-timbered farmhouses. A stay here therefore brings cultural interests together with practical information about hiking trails.

Valley, Stream and Village Scene

Otradov lies in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands at an elevation of 520 metres, on the steep slopes of the Krounka Valley. The Krounka stream flows through the village. Traditional half-timbered farmhouses with characteristic features of local folk architecture have been preserved on the hillside along the stream. The sloping terrain thus shapes both the landscape and the historic village scene.

Church, Mill and Folk Architecture

The Church of St. Bartholomew is a branch church belonging to the Krouna parish. It was first built of wood in 1349 and rebuilt after a fire. The church grounds include the church and cemetery. Its history therefore dates back to the 14th century; its affiliation with the Krouna parish adds an ecclesiastical context to its architectural significance.

Otradov’s cultural monuments include Blažkův mlýn and a nearby barn. The historic mill has been a protected cultural monument since 1958. It retains nearly all of its equipment, including the surviving remains of the waterwheel and millrace. Together with the half-timbered farmhouses, the mill adds milling technology and rural building styles to the picture of Otradov. Visitors interested in cultural history can explore distinct themes, from religious architecture and folk architecture to milling technology.

Hiking and Cycling Routes

A route description, last updated in 2016, mentions a red-marked hiking trail that leads to Otradov and then follows the Krounka River for more than 10 km. The distance of more than 10 km refers to the subsequent stretch along the river. The ĂšdolĂ Krounky (Ĺ ilinkĹŻv dĹŻl) hiking route is rated as moderate; this route description was also last updated in 2016. The two sets of planning information therefore differ: the length of the Krounka stretch is given for the red-marked trail, while the difficulty level is given for the valley route. Check the latest route details before setting out. A regional analytical update from November 2024 also lists a cycling route in Otradov.

Getting There and Events

The municipal programme for 2019–2023 described Otradov as accessible by bus or train via Krouna station, about one kilometre away. Check current connections for your travel date and factor the journey between the station and the village into your arrival plans.

The municipal programme also lists firefighter sports competitions held during 2019–2023 by the Volunteer Fire Brigade at the village’s multi-purpose sports ground. If you are interested in attending a competition, check the latest dates in advance.
