There are two distinct areas to focus on during a stay in Mladoňovice: the Deblov Geological Site and the historic crosses and bell towers at the named locations. At Deblov, the focus is on rock and traces of biological activity; the crosses, meanwhile, tell the story of local history through their construction dates and the individual circumstances surrounding their creation. These differences can help you tailor your visit to your interests: explore geological formations or learn about the crosses, bell towers and the dates they were built.

Geology at Deblov

The Deblov Geological Site features light-colored quartzite outcrops from the Middle Ordovician. A large, relatively well-preserved bedding plane displays visible traces of biological activity in the form of tunnels made by the genera Pragichnus, Skolithos and Monocraterion. The type of rock, its age and the form of the traces offer different points of interest: the dating applies to the quartzite, while the tunnels make the biological traces on the surface tangible.

A walkable tourist trail leads to the Deblov Geological Site, which lies more than 250 meters from the road. Include the walk in your visit and check the route conditions before setting out.

Crosses and bell towers

Dating to 1872, the cross in Pohled is the oldest in the municipality. A bell tower built in 1891 stands nearby. The cross in Čejkovice was erected in 1886 by the Vackovi couple, while the cross in Mladoňovice was built in 1890 with financial support from local residents. The cross in Petříkovice was erected in 1894. In Rtenín, both a cross and a bell tower were built in 1898; here, the two structures share the same year. There are 19 years between the cross and the nearby bell tower in Pohled, whereas in Rtenín the two construction dates coincide.

At Habrovka, the Buřval family, from a nearby farmstead, commissioned a freestanding cross in 1945 to commemorate the end of the Second World War. Alongside the construction dates and the people involved, there is thus an explicitly stated reason for remembrance.

Legend and chapel history

A local legend in Mladoňovice tells of gold mining in the past at the site of the vanished settlement of Zlatnice. The Zlatník stream still recalls this today through its name. Here, the focus is not on construction dates or patrons, but on a local tradition, a vanished settlement and the name of a stream.

The original idea of converting a transformer station into a chapel dates back to 2010. This historical connection offers a different emphasis from the dated crosses: the focus is on the starting point for an idea to transform the building.
