The cultural and historical sites range from an 18th-century late Baroque chapel, to monuments with clearly defined commemorative themes, and the Ležáky memorial area, located in the Chrudim area near Miřetice. Each site focuses on a different aspect of history.
Chapel and Monuments in Miřetice
The “Nejsvětější Trojice” chapel dates from 1761 and is late Baroque. It stands on the outskirts of Miřetice near a road. Inside, a wall painting depicts a sick person sitting beneath a tree, while a woman brings them food on a pitchfork. The chapel’s construction date and painted scene offer two distinct ways of approaching it: as a late Baroque building and as the setting for a precisely depicted scene.
The “Kameny zmizelých – rodina Krausova” memorial is located at Miřetice 1, in a clearing in front of house No. 187. Another monument, “Pomník Čeněk Zach,” is in the Majlant district, in a spruce forest about 130 m south of the last house.
The “Pomník Obětem 2. světové války” monument near Na Perku commemorates the landing of the 17-member Soviet parachute group Jana Koziny, the founding of the L. Svoboda partisan regiment, and those who fought against fascism. The “Pomník Obětem 1. a 2. světové války” monument in Miřetice commemorates those killed in 1914–1918, as well as Karel Svoboda, who was executed for helping and sheltering radio operator Jiří Potůček. The two monuments have different focuses: one on the parachute group, partisan regiment and resistance, the other on those killed in the First World War and Karel Svoboda.
Ležáky: Memorial Site and Visitor Information
The present-day Ležáky memorial area is located in the Chrudim area near Miřetice. The Ležáky Memorial Museum has been completely closed to visitors since June 2026 while reconstruction is underway. The museum’s multimedia exhibition “Ležáky, osada, která nemlčela...” presents the lives and fates of the settlement’s inhabitants and its destruction. The museum also has a screening room where a documentary about the Ležáky tragedy can be shown.
In 2026, the exhibition “Ležáky. Osada hrdinů” in the Ležáky Memorial Site’s mini-gallery is open to visitors Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00, with free admission. Plan your visit around these hours and check visiting times in advance.
The annual Ležácký Memorial commemorates the site in a different way: it is a competition for pupils in the first and second stages of primary school. The official start takes place above Majlant; the Municipality of Miřetice provides financial support for the event.
