Kameničky brings together sacred architectural history and specific connections to painting: these include a Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity, an artistically designed Stations of the Cross, the Antonín Slavíček Gallery and the Slavíčkův domek. The landscape and walking routes also give the place its own character—from the Chrudimka River’s source region to a nature trail that runs through Kameničky. This lets you put cultural history and nature at the heart of your stay.
Church and Stations of the Cross
The Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1764–1766 on the site of an earlier wooden church. Two phases of construction therefore meet in the same location: the wooden church that came before and the later Baroque building. The dates place the church in a specific period of the town’s history.
A Stations of the Cross stands beside the church. It was created in 2017 to an architectural design by Tereza Šmídová, with artistic details by blacksmith Pavel Tasovský. In contrast to the church, this is a considerably more recent artistic work. Those interested in sacred architecture and design will find two different historical reference points in one place.
Traces of Painting
The Antonín Slavíček Gallery displays stage sets that Antonín Slavíček and Bohuslav Dvořák painted in 1904 for the local theatre group. The connection is therefore not to the artists’ painting in general, but to a specific joint work for a stage and a local association.
The Slavíčkův domek offers another connection to Slavíček: the painter stayed there in Kameničky and created the famous painting “U nás v Kameničkách”. A memorial plaque was unveiled on the house on 18 June 1961. The gallery and the house represent different aspects of his connection to the place: the stage sets in the gallery, and his stay and painting at the house.
Two statues also contribute to the area’s cultural character: the statue of Saint John dates from 1723, and that of Saint Florian from 1779. These dates fall before and after the construction of the Church of the Holy Trinity, respectively, giving the sacred artworks their own place in history.
Landscape and Routes
Kameničky lies in the source region of the Chrudimka River and within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. A prominent feature of the surrounding area is Vojtěchův Kopec, also known in the painters’ tradition as Volákův kopec. It is 673 metres high and is among the highest places in the Chrudimsko region.
The stated conservation purpose of the Volákův kopec Nature Reserve is to protect a botanical site and the occurrence of the black grouse. The hill can therefore be understood through two distinct features: its elevation within the region and the expressly stated conservation purpose of the area.
The Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Chrudimky nature trail runs between Filipov and Lány via Kameničky. There is also a turnoff from Kameničky to Volákův kopec, which is also called Vojtěchův Kopec. These route details describe different points of reference: the nature trail passes through the town, while the turnoff leads to the named hill. This helps you decide whether to focus your planning on the route through the town or on the hilltop destination.
