The Church of St. Havel in Hošťalovice is documented in writing from 1349; at that time, it was a parish church. The early Gothic building was probably constructed around 1300. This means that the presumed construction date differs from the written record of the church as a parish church.
Church and memorial sites
Its fine architecture and Gothic wall paintings make the church a monument of considerable art-historical value. The paintings were whitewashed over during renovation in 1903.
The Hošťalovice war memorial commemorates the soldiers who fell in the First World War. It was erected in 1934 on the initiative of the Rozkvět educational association. Since 1975, it has also had a memorial plaque to Josef Huňáček from Březinka. He died in the Terezín concentration camp during the Second World War. The memorial and plaque thus refer to different wartime periods.
Circular trail, cycle route and landscape
The Partyzánská Trail, associated with Hošťalovice, is a continuous circular route with eight thematic stops and follows marked KČT trails. Cycle Route No. 4179 passes through Hošťalovice between Březinka and Licoměřice. This offers two different types of outing: a thematic circular trail and a cycle route that passes through the village. Signposting and conditions may change; check both before setting out.
A pond lies on the north-western edge of Hošťalovice, and the Hošťalovický potok flows out of it. This makes both a specific body of water and the course of the stream useful local landmarks.
Village life and planning your visit
The Hošťalovice sports complex is used primarily for sporting, social, cultural and educational purposes. It is intended mainly for residents and affiliated users. Check the current access conditions before visiting. The municipal pub in the complex has a bar that opens regularly.
Each year, Hošťalovice hosts the “O putovní pohár starosty obce Hošťalovice” fire sport competition in the fire attack discipline. If you want to plan your trip around the competition, check the date for the current year. The Czech title means roughly “for the mayor of the municipality of Hošťalovice’s travelling trophy,” clarifying the competition’s connection to the trophy.
Fishing at the Hošťalovice pond is also subject to a condition: residents and holiday-home users from Hošťalovice and Březinka may fish there if they join the local anglers’ association. Membership is therefore part of the planning, not just a question of when you visit.
Public transport
Three public bus routes are listed for Hošťalovice: Chrudim–Ronov nad Doubravou, Hošťalovice–Přelouč and Podhořany–Prachovice. The last of these runs only via Březinka. Check the current timetables before travelling and take this limitation into account when planning.
