The Jewish cemetery, the castle on the northern edge of the village and the religious monuments in the center reveal different chapters of Přestavlky’s history.

Jewish Cemetery: Location and History

The Jewish cemetery lies in fields north of the village, 400 meters west of the road to Hrochův Týnec. It is freely accessible; nevertheless, check the current access conditions before visiting. Jewish settlement in Přestavlky dates back to the first third of the 18th century. The cemetery itself was established in 1844 on land acquired from the estate owner František Xaver Adolf von Auersperg. The history of settlement and the establishment of the burial ground therefore mark two different points in time.

A description updated in March 2024 mentions around three dozen gravestones still remaining. The former synagogue is also part of the history of the Jewish community: after the community came to an end, it was converted into a residential building in 1920. The cemetery and former synagogue thus represent different periods in the village’s history—the establishment of a burial ground and the later repurposing of a building used for religious purposes.

Castle on the Northern Edge of the Village

Přestavlky Castle stands in a park on the northern edge of the village. It is a plain, single-storey rectangular building with two side wings projecting to the west. The castle is currently not open to the public. It serves as a children’s home with a school, a pedagogical care center and a pedagogical children’s unit. The architecture and present-day use are both relevant to understanding the building, but the castle is not open to the public as an interior attraction.

Chapel and Statues in the Village

In the center stands the Baroque statue of St. Florian, near the Chapel of St. Anne. It dates from around 1701. The chapel is dedicated to St. Anne; it was consecrated in gratitude for donated gifts. This part of the village’s history thus brings together a work of art dated approximately and the account of the chapel’s consecration.

At the exit from Přestavlky towards Rosice, a free reconstruction of the statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands on the original pedestal. The original was stolen. The present-day figure is made of artificial stone and has the same dimensions as the original. For this monument, the pedestal and statue therefore belong to different periods: the pedestal is original, while the statue is a reconstruction.

Roads and Getting Around

Přestavlky lies on road II/355 between Hrochův Týnec and Chrast. Road III/3551 leads from the municipality towards Zájezd and Řestoky; there is also a local road towards Trojovice. The road descriptions indicate different directions: II/355 is located between two places, while the other two roads are described from the municipality in their respective directions. Together with the locations of the historic sites, this provides a clear framework for finding your way around Přestavlky.
