Jenišovice U Chrudimi combines a town centre shaped by the Church of the Holy Trinity with the Novohradka River and cycle route 4194. This gives you two different perspectives to consider when planning your stay: the architectural and local history in the centre, and a named route that passes through several places. A tradition of craftsmanship and a historic fire engine add further local stories to the picture.

River and town centre

The Novohradka, also known as the Olšinka, flows through Jenišovice. The Řepnický potok stream joins it there. The names therefore refer to a river and its tributary in the town. The Church of the Holy Trinity stands in the centre, above the road on a small rise, and shapes the townscape. The river and the church’s elevated position give you two concrete points of reference for the character of the place.

Early Gothic architecture and stone crosses

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a single-nave early Gothic church. Its chancel ends in a polygonal apse set back from the rest of the building, and a prismatic tower is set into the façade. The church dates from around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. “Single-nave” describes a church building with one main nave, while “polygonal” refers to the many-sided end of the chancel. These terms therefore relate directly to the building’s form: a main nave, a set-back chancel and a tower in the façade.

There is a listed crucifix in front of the church. A stone cross in the Empire style also stands at the entrance to the churchyard. It was erected in 1808 at Jakub Dostál’s expense. The crucifix and the Empire-style cross are two distinct historical features; the year 1808 refers to the stone cross in the Empire style.

Craftsmanship and fire service history

Musical instruments were once made and repaired in Jenišovice. This craft tradition adds another aspect of local history to the town’s architectural history. An old vehicle is also part of the area’s local history: the Jenišovice fire brigade actively takes part in various fire brigade anniversaries, bringing along a Škoda 125. The vehicle is said to be the only one of its kind in Bohemia.

Cycle route and practical information

Cycle route 4194 runs from Slatiňany to Řepníky via Martinice, Jenišovice and Štěnec. Its named endpoints and places along the way make it easy to plan your route. If you want to use the cycle route, check the signs locally. In Jenišovice, the children’s playground at Jedlá zahrada offers a place to take a break. There is parking in the town centre. This means that Jenišovice has both a route passing through the town and a specifically identified stopping point.

A scenic point of reference in Štěnec

The Kusá hora Nature Monument and Štěnecký rybník pond lie within the cadastral area of the municipality of Štěnec, which is two kilometres from Jenišovice. These two scenic points of reference are therefore in Štěnec, while the Church of the Holy Trinity and the stone crosses shape the centre of Jenišovice. Keeping these locations distinct helps you tell historic buildings apart from natural features when planning your trip.

Choose the focus of your stay

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Jenišovice, first consider whether you would rather focus on the cultural history in the centre or on cycle route 4194. The church and historic crosses are the cultural highlights in the town centre. The cycle route passes through Jenišovice and names Slatiňany and Řepníky as its endpoints.
