The first written mention of 1381 provides a historical reference point for the village. The war memorial, two chapels and several features connected with the streams offer specific ways to explore its culture and landscape. Football and fishing competitions are also part of local events. Historic landmarks, waterways and community life thus offer different themes for your stay.

Local History and Places of Remembrance

Dřenice was first mentioned in writing in 1381. According to local tradition, its founding is attributed to Count Dřeň, who lived in the part of the village now known as Na Hrázi. The year and the founding figure represent two distinct historical reference points: 1381 is the first written mention, while the founding is attributed to Count Dřeň.

The Dřenice memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars is a sandstone monument with a name plaque, a relief, a flaming heart and a cross. The reverse records its unveiling on 18 August 1946. The design and inscription connect the monument’s commemorative purpose with a precisely dated historical event.

The two chapels differ in location. The chapel in the Na Hrázi part of the village was built by local residents at the end of the 19th century and stands above the confluence of the Markovický and Bylanka streams. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is south of the village at a crossroads near Na Hrázi. The wooden bell tower is another historic feature of the village; its original bell is still in working order.

Streams and Landscape

The Bylanka stream enters the municipal area from the south, flows through a shallow valley and then runs north through the built-up area before leaving the municipality. In Na Hrázi, the Bylanka and Markovický streams meet at the former pond dam. These are two distinct landscape features: a stream flowing through the built-up area and two streams meeting at a former pond dam.

Another local landscape feature is the source of the Dřenička, a small stream. Dřenice thus has several distinct water features: the Bylanka’s course through the municipality, the confluence at Na Hrázi and the source of a smaller stream. These distinctions provide specific points of reference for describing the landscape, rather than reducing all its water features to a single theme.

Sport and Local Events

The SK Dřenice sports complex includes a grass football pitch, changing rooms with a clubhouse and snack bar, sanitary facilities, a summer dance area and a renovated tennis court. The facilities include infrastructure for football and tennis, as well as amenities for other activities. If you would like to include the sports complex in your plans, it is best to check visiting and usage options in advance.

Several football tournaments for men’s or veterans’ teams take place each year at the SK Dřenice sports ground. The Dřenice fishing club also holds fishing competitions several times a year, in several categories, at the municipal fire-fighting pond. The two types of competition differ in both their focus and venue. If you would like to include one of these events in your travel plans, check the specific dates and visiting options.

At Dřenické Posvícení 2025, a goulash festival, a dance event and other accompanying events took place on the first weekend in September. This dated event combines culinary and social elements.

When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between the village’s landmarks and time-specific activities: the memorial, chapels and streams shape its historical and landscape themes, while tournaments and competitions depend on event dates. This lets you decide whether to discover Dřenice mainly through its buildings and waterways or plan your trip around a specific event.
