The Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist in Tuněchody dates back to 1350. Its construction gives the village a specific historical landmark.

The Church and Its Architecture

The church is a rectangular, single-nave building with a presbytery closed off on five sides. “Single-nave” describes a building with one main nave; the presbytery is the chancel. The rectangular structure and the five-sided end refer to different parts of the architectural layout. The five sides refer to the end of the chancel, not to the entire building. The year 1350 dates the church, while its floor plan defines its architectural form. Those interested in historic architectural styles can thus connect a precise date with a clearly defined design feature.

Habitats in Habrov

Part of the Habrov Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of Tuněchody. The reserve protects rare heat-loving plant communities in an oak-hornbeam forest with shrub margins, meadow clearings and wetlands. “Heat-loving” describes plants that prefer warm locations. The vegetation therefore includes not only woodland but also wooded edges, open meadow areas and wet places. Habrov thus encompasses several different landscape features. Nature lovers will find a particular focus here on protected plant communities and a range of habitat types. The Chrudimka River also flows close to Tuněchody.

The nature reserve can be reached via Road II/340 or by a footpath along its western edge. The two access routes are clearly distinct: you can follow the road or the footpath on the western boundary. As local conditions can change, check them before your visit.

A Hillfort from the Late Neolithic

In the southern part of Habrov is a protected prehistoric hillfort dating from the Late Neolithic. Alongside the church, it provides another historical landmark. For the church, the focus is on a precise year of construction; for the hillfort, it is its place in a prehistoric period. The comparison brings two different time horizons into focus: a building with a specific year and an archaeological site from an early period.

Cycling Routes and Getting There

Cycle route 4112 runs through Tuněchody. Cycle route 4177 also passes through the village and then continues via Úhřetice. If you plan to ride route 4177, check the current signs before setting off.

Tuněchody railway stop is about 1 km south of the village. This is an approximate indication of its location. Check train timetables separately if you plan to travel by rail.

Multi-Purpose Sports Court

The multi-purpose sports court is also open to the public and can be booked through a reservation system. If you would like to use it, check the system in advance to make a reservation.
