Licibořice can be explored through several distinct interests: encounters with animals on a historic farm, numbered cycle routes, protected landscapes and striking details on a church. For planning, it helps to consider these themes separately. This makes it easier to decide whether your stay should focus mainly on animals, nature or architecture.
Animals and Farm History
Babiččin dvoreček is located on a farm in Licibořice that is more than 400 years old, and opened to the public in May 2012. The two dates refer to different things: the age belongs to the farm, while May 2012 marks the start of public visits. Traditional farm animals are kept on the farm, including goats, sheep, cattle and turkeys. Visitors can see, pet and feed the animals up close. The visit also includes Dědečkova obůrka and its forest animals. If you include this in your travel plans, check the current visiting conditions in advance.
Cycle Routes Through Licibořice
Two cycle routes pass through Licibořice: Cycle Route 4112 runs between Horní Bradlo and Sezemice through the village, while Cycle Route 4177 also passes through Licibořice. Route 4112 can therefore be identified by its two endpoints; 4177 is another numbered route through the municipality. If cycling is part of your stay, you can use the route numbers as a specific point of reference when making your own choice.
Protected Areas and Habitats
The Krkanka Nature Reserve covers an area of rugged terrain with a deep gorge formed by the Chrudimka River and its tributaries. The cadastral area of the municipality of Licibořice extends into the Krkanka Nature Reserve; check current official maps for the exact boundaries. It is also a breeding area for the eagle-owl. Krkanka thus offers nature enthusiasts two different perspectives: the landscape’s landforms and a specific habitat for a bird species.
Another natural highlight is Boušovka, a small woodland pond in the Slavická Game Reserve. The Boušovka Site of Community Importance lies within the cadastral area of Licibořice and overlaps with the Boušovka Natural Monument. The pond’s shallow, sunny shores provide a habitat for the rare yellow-spotted whiteface dragonfly. The Slavická Game Reserve also has old oak avenues along its paths and on the pond embankments.
By comparison, the focus is on a deep river gorge with eagle-owls and a pond habitat with a rare dragonfly species. The oak avenues add another landscape feature to the natural character of the Slavická Game Reserve.
Church Architecture in the Village
The Church of St Michael the Archangel in Licibořice is a single-nave building with a rectangular floor plan and a small apse. Its entrance portal has original carved, double-leaf wooden doors. Statues stand in niches on both sides of the façade. The church’s overall structure, entrance architecture and façade design can thus be considered as distinct aspects. Licibořice also has a bell tower remodelled in the Baroque style.
