Kočí combines a cultural and historical focus with a firefighting museum and several cycling routes. Its landmarks are the Church of St. Bartholomew the Apostle and the covered wooden bridge; it also has a varied firefighting collection and routes of different total lengths. Depending on whether you are interested in architectural history, firefighting history or cycling, you can tailor your stay accordingly.
Church and Covered Bridge
The Church of St. Bartholomew the Apostle was built in 1397 at the expense of Queen Žofie. In 2010, it was added to the list of national cultural monuments. Wall paintings were discovered in the nave in 1899. Two bells hang in the wooden bell tower: the older one is dedicated to St. Bartholomew and the younger one to St. Lawrence.
The covered wooden bridge is also part of the area’s architectural history. It connects the church with the village and spans the wetland between the church and the road for 18 metres. It is also one of the oldest surviving covered wooden bridges in the Czech Republic. The combination of church, bridge and village makes the structure a special subject for anyone interested in historic constructions.
A recurring event is the pilgrimage Mass, celebrated on the Sunday around 24 August. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check which Sunday it falls on in the relevant year.
Firefighting History at the Museum
The Kočí Firefighting Museum displays historical and contemporary firefighting artefacts. Exhibits include helmets, axes, hoses and uniforms. The covered exhibition area covers more than 524 m². This gives the museum its own focus alongside the village’s religious architecture and history.
Visits can be arranged at any time by telephone in advance. So plan your museum visit by calling ahead and arranging it by phone.
Cycling Routes and Getting There
Kočí lies on two cycling routes of different lengths, making it easy to compare their overall distances. The 21-kilometre route “Za loutkami do Chrudimi” (To Chrudim for Puppets) passes through Kočí. The 51-kilometre route “Na Chlumek a Košumberk” (To Chlumek and Košumberk) includes the village as one of its stops. The stated total distances help you choose between the routes according to how far you want to cycle.
A cycling tour description published in 2011 under the title “Cyklovýlet Kočí, Slatiňany, Chrudim” (Cycling Tour: Kočí, Slatiňany, Chrudim) runs from Kočí along a secondary road to Slatiňany. From there, the described route follows a blue-marked hiking trail along the Chrudimka River to Chrudim. Since the tour description dates from 2011, check the current route and trail conditions before planning your trip.
According to the stop list dated 11 May 2026, the “Kočí,,kostel” stop is assigned to fare zone 702. Check the current timetable before travelling by bus. Parking is available at the church or the municipal office; check the situation before setting out.
When looking for a holiday apartment, you can match your interests to your planned stay: the church and bridge, firefighting history or one of the cycling routes. Then compare the location and availability of each option with your specific plans. This way, you can choose accommodation based on which aspects of Kočí you want to shape your stay.
