Vojtěchov lies in the foothills of the Žďárské vrchy at an elevation of 528 metres. Three themes can help you choose it as a destination: cycling route 4122, which passes through the town, the Vojtěchovská rozhledna observation tower, and the history of the settlement. These offer different focuses: outdoor activity, views and historical connections.

Landscape and cycling route

The part of Vojtěchov south of the I/34 road is within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. Forests define the scenery there, with farmland and meadows making up a smaller proportion. The elevation and foothills setting place the town in context, while these details offer a closer look at its southern part.

Cycling route 4122 passes through Vojtěchov, making the town a distinct point of interest for a cycling trip. The route and the Protected Landscape Area address different questions: the route passes through the town, while the landscape area described here lies south of the I/34. If you are planning your trip around cycling, the route through Vojtěchov is a concrete starting point.

Views and planning your visit

The Vojtěchovská rozhledna observation tower opened near Vojtěchov in July 2010. On a clear day, you can see Kunětická hora, Sněžka and Kralický Sněžník from there. The panorama therefore depends on clear visibility; opening hours vary by season.

In April, May and June, and in September and October, the tower is open Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In July and August, the same hours apply every day. Check the opening hours before your visit so you can take them into account when planning your day.

Two different conditions therefore affect a visit to the observation tower: the season determines when you can visit, while visibility determines whether the three landmarks mentioned above can be seen.

Local history from the Middle Ages to the present

Vojtěchov was founded in the second half of the 13th century, during the reign of Přemysl Otakar II and his son Václav II. The first written mention dates from 1392. These dates mark different historical reference points: the founding period indicates when the town came into being, while 1392 marks its first written mention.

The Protestant cemetery was established at the beginning of the 19th century and is still in use. In Pláňavy, traces of charcoal-burning sites have been preserved in connection with historical ironworking. These details add two further aspects to the town’s early history: a cemetery that remains in use and preserved traces of earlier charcoal production.

Getting there by train

Vojtěchov railway station is on line 238 between Pardubice and Havlíčkův Brod and is part of the IREDO integrated transport system. The line number and its two endpoints can help you find a suitable train connection. Check the timetable for your travel date before setting out. For planning, these factors are distinct: timetables and tower opening hours can be checked in advance, while the panorama also depends on visibility.
