Peralec combines a protected local landmark with a cycling loop that starts and ends in the village. Different sandstone landscapes also emerge in the directions around Peralec. You can therefore plan your stay around specific interests: the village’s memorial sites, the Polanská Trail, or the natural features in the surrounding area.

Landmarks and memorial sites

The protected Church of St John the Baptist and its cemetery are Peralec’s central landmark. The church and cemetery together form this distinctive point of reference for the village. Anyone interested in local cultural history will find a clearly identified starting point here, without needing to assume any further features of the church building.

In the centre, in front of the municipal office, stands a memorial to the victims of the Second World War. It was unveiled on 6 July 1947. Its dedication distinguishes this memorial site from the church: here, the focus is on commemorating the victims of the war. Another marker is the cross above Zádušní rybník, which residents have maintained since 2021. The church, memorial and cross each provide their own cultural and historical points of interest.

Sandstone landscapes around Peralec

The municipality lies within the Železné hory area; Peralec also lies within the Sečská vrchovina subregion. These classifications provide the broader landscape context. The named natural sites are more specific and can be distinguished by their location and the particular sandstone formations found at each one.

The protected recreational area of Maštale, with its sandstone cliffs, lies northeast of Peralec. To the north is the protected natural monument of Pivnická rokle, a sandstone canyon. In some places, its gorge is just 60 centimetres wide. This figure describes the narrow sections, not the entire gorge. The rock formations at Maštale and the remarkable narrowness of Pivnická rokle therefore represent different landscape highlights.

Šilingův důl, a listed site under state nature conservation, lies west of Peralec. The sites have different designations: Maštale is a protected recreational area, Pivnická rokle is a protected natural monument, and Šilingův důl is a site under state nature conservation. Together, these names provide a guide without implying that their respective protection designations are interchangeable.

The Polanská Trail, starting and ending in Peralec

The Polanská Trail is a 24.3-kilometre cycling loop that starts and ends in Peralec. The village is therefore both the starting point and the destination of a clearly defined cycling route. This offers a different way to plan your visit than using the individual natural sites as a guide, each of which is described in terms of its direction from Peralec.

The route length gives you a specific point of reference if you would like to include the loop in your stay. On its own, however, it does not indicate how long your ride will take. Check local conditions before setting out. This lets you consider the Polanská Trail as a separate focus alongside the memorial sites and sandstone landscapes, without assuming a particular duration or riding pace.
