The attractions in and around Třemošnice range from medieval history to trails through protected landscapes. At Lichnice, castle ruins and views come together, while nature trails reveal the natural surroundings. Trail distances offer a practical guide for planning your trip; the museum, gallery and park each have their own character.
Lichnice: castle ruins and views
Lichnice Castle was built in the 13th century by Smil Světlický on a rocky ridge in Podhradí near Třemošnice. The Milada observation tower is located in one of its towers. Lichnice offers views over the Čáslav Basin. Below the castle, Lovětínská Gorge is part of the Lichnice–Kaňkovy hory National Nature Reserve. This area therefore combines tangible reminders of history with a protected landscape.
Nature trails and cycling routes
The Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Železných hor trail passes through the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area and the Lichnice–Kaňkovy hory National Nature Reserve. It is 22 kilometres long and has 15 stops, including Lichnice and Třemošnice. At 3 kilometres, the Lichnice–Kaňkovy hory forest nature trail is considerably shorter and runs from Třemošnice through Nouzov to Hedvikov. Information boards along the entire route describe the animals and plants found there. The trail follows surfaced type 2L forest roads. Part of the Třemošnice forest nature trail runs through Hedvikovská Gorge alongside the Zlatý potok stream.
There is also a clear comparison in the lengths of the cycling routes. The moderately difficult cycle route 4127 runs from Třemošnice through Prachovice and Heřmanův Městec to Kokešov and is 28.5 kilometres long. The also moderately difficult cycle route 4233 connects Třemošnice and Pařížov along a 5-kilometre route. You can choose between these two different cycling options based on route length and stated difficulty.
Museum, gallery and park
At the Berlova vápenka museum, you can read information boards, look at display cases and handle tools used in the limeworks. Tours for groups can also be arranged outside opening hours; confirm the booking details before you travel.
The Městská galerie Třemošnice was created by converting the attic rooms of a former school building and began operating on 26 June 1999. Its exhibitions change monthly. This offers a different cultural experience from the museum: the gallery focuses on changing exhibitions, while the museum features the limeworks’ information boards, display cases and tools.
The Park of Divine Mercy takes its name from a church that was never built. A stone cross stands on the site of the planned church; a path leads from there to a wooden cross. Both crosses are specific points of interest to explore as you visit the site.
Motocross in Třemošnice
