The Krajem Chrudimky nature trail is 74 km long and has 31 information panels. It starts at Filipovský pramen, a forest spring in the Stará obora forest area northwest of Svratouch; the spring is one of the sources of the Chrudimka. Its length makes the trail a planning consideration in its own right, while the panels provide an informative focus. If you are considering Svratouch for hiking, this trail is a destination in itself, not just a short walk. Svratouch lies in a subregion of the Žďárské vrchy.
Nature among the trail, peat bog and pond
The Chochol pond lies on the northeastern edge of Svratouch. Its sandy beach is an inviting place to swim on sunny summer days; conditions may vary by season. If swimming is important to your plans, check conditions before your visit. The pond brings a distinctly summery theme to your trip planning, while the nature trail—with its length and information panels—offers a different focus.
The U Tučkovy hájenky natural monument lies partly within the cadastral area of Svratouch and encompasses broad valley areas with peat meadows. Protected habitats include transitional mires and nutrient-poor calcareous fens, as well as tall-sedge communities, wet cabbage-thistle meadows and Nardus grasslands. Protected and endangered plant and animal species are the focus of conservation there. The different mire and meadow habitats make this natural area a destination in its own right, alongside the nature trail and seasonal swimming.
Church, chapel and historic buildings
The Protestant church in Svratouch was built in 1783–1784 as a toleration prayer house and officially opened on 20 October 1784. It was remodelled in the Art Nouveau style in 1911–1912; a cemetery dating from the Toleration era surrounds the church. Its architectural history thus connects its origins as a toleration prayer house with a later Art Nouveau redesign.
The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk has its own, considerably later chronology: construction began in 1933, and it was consecrated on 10 June 1935. The dates clearly distinguish the start of construction from its completion with the consecration.
The building of the Protestant school in Svratouch has been a listed monument since 1958. Since 2016, it has housed the Museum of Historic Motorcycles. If you plan to visit the museum, confirm opening details directly with the museum. The Karlštejn hunting lodge adds another historic point of interest in the vicinity of Svratouch: it was built around 1770 and completed in 1776.
Choose the focus of your stay
Nature and cultural attractions call for different kinds of planning: at 74 km, the nature trail is a destination in its own right, swimming at Chochol depends on the season, and the architectural history unfolds through specific dates. If you plan to visit the museum, confirm opening details directly with the museum.
