Nine silhouette panels spread over about half a kilometre, paths through the forest and a natural monument, and reconstructed buildings from three prehistoric eras offer different ways to explore the landscape and its history. Choose from nature-themed walks, archaeological insights and special collections for your discoveries.
Forest, Trails and Plants
The municipal forests of Hradec Králové cover 3,771 hectares; Scots pine accounts for 67 percent of the forest. The trails also have different focuses. The Vodnická Trail is classed as easy and is about two kilometres long. The Stezka siluet (Silhouette Trail) is much shorter, at around half a kilometre, and features nine silhouette panels. This makes it possible to compare the routes by length and theme without treating them as interchangeable.
The Funkce lesa educational trail runs through the Černá stráň natural monument. The Les Chlum educational trail has ten information panels at ten stops, where you can learn about rare and protected plants. A blue wheelchair route in the Hradec Králové city forests starts at the terminus of bus line 9, near Lesní hřbitov. If you are travelling by bus, check the service before setting off, as local bus routes may change.
Archaeology on Display
The Všestary Archaeopark is the sixth stop on an archaeological cycle route. Its open-air museum features reconstructed buildings from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. In this way, structures from three eras are presented side by side, rather than prehistory being explored solely through individual finds. One exhibition focuses on the making and use of polished stone axes in the later Stone Age. The Archaeopark also includes a cave with paintings. Exhibitions may change during renovation work.
Cultural Monuments and Regional Products
The building housing the Museum of Eastern Bohemia has been designated a national cultural monument since 1995. The Třebechovický Proboštův betlém, meanwhile, comprises more than 2,000 carved wooden pieces. It is the only nativity scene in the Czech Republic to have been declared a national cultural monument. These two examples showcase different aspects of cultural heritage: an award-winning museum building on the one hand, and a nativity scene whose scale is evident from the number of its individual pieces on the other.
Hradecký kapr is another regional discovery: the product has been certified as a regional product since 2020. Availability and places to buy it may change. So if you would like to try or purchase the carp, check in advance where it is currently available.
Different Interests, Different Routes
The lengths make for a direct comparison: the Stezka siluet is about half a kilometre long, while the Vodnická Trail, described as easy, is around two kilometres long. The Archaeopark, by contrast, focuses on reconstructed buildings, an exhibition and the cave. You can tailor your discoveries to whether you are looking for a trail with information panels, a longer walking route or archaeological displays.
