Syrovátka combines a named cycle route with tangible traces of its sugar factory history. Historic factory buildings and a 61-metre-high chimney give the village an industrial focal point, while cycle route 4200 also runs through it. A reconstructed bell tower, a stone cross and extensive greenery round out the village scene. This offers two distinct ways to plan a visit: a cycling route through Syrovátka and a village whose history can be explored through several buildings and dates.

Cycling connections through Syrovátka

Cycle route 4200 runs through Syrovátka from Pardubice to Hrádek u Nechanic. At Syrovátka railway station, it connects with cycle route 4198 from Plačice to Dobřenice. The routes can be distinguished by their endpoints: route 4200 names Pardubice and Hrádek u Nechanic, while route 4198 names Plačice and Dobřenice. For route planning, the railway station is the specific landmark where the two route numbers meet. This lets you consider the route 4200 section and the connection to route 4198 separately.

Traces of the sugar factory

From 1880, a branch railway line more than three kilometres long ran from Dobřenice railway station to Weinrich’s sugar factory in Syrovátka. It was later referred to as an agricultural sugar factory. The factory can therefore be understood not only through its buildings, but also through an earlier transport link.

The historic buildings of the local sugar factory date from the 19th and 20th centuries. The factory chimney is 61 metres high and has a circular shaft; it is thought to date from around 1851. Later alterations and a reconstruction are also part of its history. The buildings, chimney and branch railway line show different aspects of the industrial operation: its architectural development, a distinctive standalone structure and its historic connection to the railway station.

Village square, village scene and views

The bell tower on Syrovátka’s village square has been reconstructed. A stone cross in the village dates from 1884 and was restored in 1908. The two structures offer different points of interest: the bell tower is notable for its reconstruction, while the cross has a clear timeline of construction and restoration. Alongside the sugar factory history, you can also explore other architectural traces of the village.

Mature trees and other extensive greenery in the centre contribute to Syrovátka’s aesthetic character. They are also part of the village scene, alongside its historic buildings. The “Dobřenická vyhlídková” walking route offers a different perspective, with views of Syrovátka and the chimney of the former sugar factory. It brings the view of the village together with that of a specific element of its industrial history.

Plan your stay
