The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary brings Neděliště’s long history to life: its history dates back to the mid-12th century, and its present appearance reveals Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque building phases. There are also monuments in the village square, memorial sites from 1866, and a regional cycling route. This gives you a range of options for planning your visit—from architecture and local history to an activity lasting several hours.

Church, Village Square, and Chateau

The church is a single-nave building surrounded by a wall with two gates. It has been a protected monument since 1958. Its crypt served as the family tomb of the owners of the estate. The building therefore brings together several historical layers: multiple construction phases and its former use as a burial place.

Two Baroque sandstone works stand in the village square. The cross depicts the Crucifixion; the cross and its pedestal were made in 1726. The sandstone statue of St. John of Nepomuk was erected in 1729. Both monuments belong to the same style, and their dates are three years apart.

The chateau offers a different architectural accent: it is a single-storey building with a mansard floor above and a double roof. A stone Baroque portal leads into the entrance hall. After the well was removed, the chateau courtyard was turned into a park.

Memorial Sites and Monument History

Three war graves from the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 are located in the cemetery by the church. They are associated with the Battle of Hradec Králové on 3 July and were renovated in 2023. Near Neděliště, there is also a sandstone monument to the Austrian Artillery Regiment No. 6. It was erected and ceremonially consecrated on 24 August 1867, directly at the site of the fighting. It also serves as the final resting place of the soldiers buried beneath it.

Another monument stands at the edge of Neděliště, on the county road from Světí. The stone wayside shrine has a four-sided base, a round shaft, a structure above it, and a small chapel. It was erected in memory of Matěj Buzek, who died of the plague in 1712. Unlike the war graves and the regimental monument, it commemorates one named individual.

Sports Ground and Regional Cycling Route

The public multi-purpose sports ground is intended for ball games for all age groups. These include, in particular, small-sided football, handball, volleyball, nohejbal, and tennis. An online booking system shows availability and allows reservations. Check the current conditions before visiting; availability and booking procedures may change.

For a longer activity, consider the official cycling loop through the 1866 battlefield area. It is 33 km long and takes about six hours. The route passes through Neděliště, Sendražice, and Lochenice towards the Elbe riverfront quay in Hradec Králové. The estimated duration is a useful guide when planning your time: the cycling loop is a major part of a stay, while the sports ground offers another option for ball games.
