Sendražice brings together several eras of local history and architecture, along with routes for walkers and cyclists. If you are planning a stay, you can consider two interests separately: historical sites and architectural details on the one hand, and getting around on foot or by bike on the other. The buildings differ in function, design and period; for the routes, the intended user group, difficulty and course help guide your choice.

Local History and Memorial Sites

Sendražice is first documented in 1297. At that time, Ondřej ze Sendražic owned land there. This year provides a specific reference point in the town’s medieval history.

The monument in Sendražice to the members of the Austrian 9th Field Jäger Battalion is a monumental sandstone stele designed in the Secessionist style. It is dedicated to four soldiers of the battalion and to Josef Holdík from Sendražice, a former fighter. Its material, form and style give the monument a clearly recognisable appearance; its dedication also records several names and associations.

A small bell tower and a reconciliation cross stand beneath the memorial lime tree. These two features add further specific points of reference to the local memorial sites.

Church and Farmstead: Distinct Architectural Forms

The Church of St Stanislaus has a Gothic core dating from the mid-14th century and was remodelled in the Baroque style in the early 18th century. It stands on a prominent spur at the northeastern edge of Sendražice, within a roughly oval cemetery enclosed by a perimeter wall. Thus, both the church’s building phases and its location and walled cemetery come into view.

Farmstead No. 74 represents a different form of rural architecture. It is enclosed on all four sides and comprises a house, a barn and former stables. A Neoclassical farmstead typical of the Hradecko area, it dates from around the mid-19th century. In comparison with the church, it illustrates the difference between sacred architecture with a medieval core and a Neoclassical rural farmstead.

Getting Around on Foot or by Bike

The Naučná stezka nature trail is marked, of moderate difficulty and suitable for both walkers and cyclists. In some places, it follows marked hiking and cycling trails. Near Sendražice, the nature trail splits; one branch passes through Sendražice to Hořiněves. Its difficulty, suitability for both user groups and the branch mentioned here provide different points of reference for exploring this route.

Another option is the Okruh bojištěm bitvy 1866 cycling circuit. It passes through Neděliště, Sendražice and Lochenice towards Hradec Králové. The routes therefore differ in more than just their names: for the nature trail, the moderate difficulty rating and branch to Hořiněves are specified, while the cycling circuit focuses on the sequence of towns and the direction towards Hradec Králové. This allows you to choose a route based on the type of guidance that matters to you, without assuming a particular distance or duration.
