Explore Nechanice through its water fortress trail, cultural monuments and marked routes. For your planning, these offer different ways to discover the area: the Tvrziště connects the remains of a fortification with a specific location, the column on Husovo náměstí depicts a religious figure group, and the routes provide guidance via named places. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, choose Nechanice as your destination and then decide whether cultural heritage or route itineraries should shape your stay.
Remains of a Water Fortress
The Tvrziště Nechanice is the remains of a water fortress surrounded by three ramparts and a moat. It lies north of the built-up area, on the right bank of the Bystřice, about 200 m from the northeastern corner of Nechanice’s market square, where the church stands. The market square and the river offer two different points of reference: the distance is measured from the corner of the square, while the riverbank reference is to the Bystřice. This lets you locate the historic site on a map in relation to a specific square and the riverbank.
Cultural Monuments in Detail
The column on Husovo náměstí depicts Saint Anne, the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child. Anne embraces Mary, who carries the Christ Child on her left arm. The column is probably a free-standing copy of the original Baroque stone sculpture by an unknown artist; the original dates from 1737.
A memorial plaque was also unveiled in 1998 at the site of Jan Křtitel Vaňhal’s birthplace. The location and year provide two different clues: the former site of the birthplace connects the memorial with Vaňhal, while 1998 is the year the plaque was unveiled. A religious figure group and the remembrance of a place of biographical significance thus stand side by side as distinct cultural themes.
Marked Route and Cycle Routes
Marked hiking route 117 starts in the square in Nechanice and passes Hrádek u Nechanic Castle, the church in Hrádek, Libčany, Lhota pod Libčany and Osice. The sequence of place names provides concrete guidance for planning further: you can follow the route via the named stops rather than identifying it only by its starting point.
The cycle routes also differ in their connection to local places. Cycle route 4289 starts in Nechanice and continues via Na Křemenci, Zvíkov and Babice; cycle route 4292 passes through Nechanice. Route 117 and cycle route 4289 each list a sequence of further places, while route 4292 is distinguished by passing through the town. When narrowing down your options, you can therefore consider whether you are looking for named stops along a route or a cycle route that passes through Nechanice.
