A mechanical wooden Nativity scene, historic churches and a nature trail on Oreb give Třebechovice Pod Orebem several clearly distinct cultural themes. When planning a stay, visitors can focus on carved details, architectural history or a trail with historic stops.
Nativity Art at the Museum
The Třebechovický Proboštův betlém is the only Nativity scene in the Czech Republic to have been declared a National Cultural Monument, in 1999. It was made entirely of wood more than a century ago, including its mechanism. It measures 6.9 × 1.9 × 2.2 metres, and contains more than 2,000 carved pieces. The Třebechovické muzeum betlémů specialises in documenting static and mechanical Nativity scenes. During an individual museum visit, you can see the Probošt mechanism with its unique wooden mechanism; check the visiting details before you arrive.
Churches Between Baroque and Neo-Romanesque
The churches also offer specific points of reference for exploring architectural history. The Church of St Andrew is a Baroque church built between 1767 and 1771. The Evangelical Church in Třebechovice was built later, between 1876 and 1880, in the Neo-Romanesque style. The Church of Božího Těla is also located on Oreb and is listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Different periods and styles of architecture thus stand alongside a designated heritage site on Oreb.
Nature Trail and Short Sightseeing Loop
The Naučná stezka Oreb starts at Masarykovo náměstí, leads up to Oreb and returns to the square via Hajnišův mlýn. Its six stops introduce the history of the buildings and monuments along the route. Another option is the Třebechovická stopa, a short sightseeing loop of approximately three kilometres. There are different points of reference to help you choose a route: the Oreb nature trail offers its route and historic stops, while the Třebechovická stopa offers an approximate loop distance. Check the condition of the Naučná stezka Oreb and the availability of the loop before setting out.
Alba: Watercourse and Historic Infrastructure
The artificial watercourse Alba, also locally known as Vantroka, was created in the first half of the 16th century to supply water to a system of ponds, mills and sawmills. It runs via Častolovice and Týniště nad Orlicí and through the forests near Bědovice to the centre of Třebechovice Pod Orebem, where it flows into the Dědina. Visitors interested in designed landscapes and historic infrastructure will find a different perspective here from that offered by the Nativity scene and churches.
Gallery Visit and Cycling Tour
The RaDost Gallery can also be visited outside regular opening hours by appointment by phone. Cultural events organised by the local culture centre at the Třebechovické muzeum betlémů include the “Around Oreb” cycling tour. Check the event dates before your trip.
The Třebechovické muzeum betlémů is located at Masarykovo náměstí 1426, 503 46 Třebechovice Pod Orebem.
