Lužany nad Trotinou lies in the Trotina Valley, about 20 kilometres north of Hradec Králové. The village is in the southwest of the Hustířanka microregion. If you are looking for holiday apartments in Luzany Nad Trotinou, you can plan your trip around the river landscape, cycling or the village’s history. The municipality comprises the two parts of Lužany and Lhota.

Trotina Valley and outdoor activities

The Trotina flows through the municipal area. It rises below Mount ZviÄŤina and joins the Elbe at Lochenice. Both its source and its confluence are outside the place described here. LuĹľany itself is characterised by its location in the valley of this small river. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between staying in the village and visiting other places in the river basin.

LuĹľany is connected to an educational cycling trail. Before setting off on a bike tour, check its current route and choose a distance that suits you. In winter, the municipality describes the gently undulating surroundings as suitable for cross-country skiing. Whether a tour is possible depends on the actual snow and terrain conditions; check these before setting off.

Traces of the village’s medieval history

The history of Lužany leads back to a former fortress. Between 1405 and 1410, the knight Hašek of the Střížek of Koloděj family lived there. Around 1478, his descendant Hašek Střížek of Lužany is named as its owner. These recorded names and dates are part of the village’s history. They do not describe a present-day museum and do not indicate that a castle site is currently open to visitors.

Local associations date back to a later period: the volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1889, and the Sokol gymnastics association was established in 1921. Both foundations are part of the village’s more recent history and complement the medieval accounts with the development of community life.

The memorial in the village centre

At the crossroads in the centre stands the memorial to the victims of the First World War, erected in 1923. Seventy-eight men from LuĹľany were called up for military service. Thirteen of them died in the war or as a result of it. The memorial commemorates these residents and provides a specific point of reference for a walk focused on local history. The figures refer to the municipality and to this war; they are not a general casualty count for the region.

Community life and your stay

The village has a municipal library. A renovated inn serves as a community centre for social and cultural activities. There is also a playground near the municipal office. If you would like to attend events or use the facilities, check the current opening hours and offerings in advance. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can then consider whether proximity to the village centre or your planned excursions is more important to you.
