Výrava offers several distinct reasons to visit: concerts at Letní Parket, chapels with their own architectural histories, a monument in the town centre and two named biocentres. When planning your trip, you might start by deciding what brings you there: should a concert date shape your stay, or are you more interested in religious architecture, remembrance and the landscape? These themes raise different questions, from finding a suitable concert date to understanding the town’s history and its two natural sites.
Chapels and Remembrance
Výrava was first mentioned in writing in 1406. This year marks the first written mention of the town, not the construction date of a chapel. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in 1868 and stands in the upper part of Výrava, towards Jílovice, above a spring. The Chapel of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist was built in 1906–1907 on the site of an older chapel. The histories of the two chapels therefore have different points of reference: for the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, the construction date and its position above a spring go together; for the Chapel of Saint John, the earlier chapel on the same site is part of its history.
The monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars stands at Výrava 104, next to the municipal office in the town centre. It was ceremonially unveiled on 28 October 1948. These dates mark different events in the timeline: 1406 is the first written mention, 1868 and 1906–1907 are construction dates, and 1948 is the date the monument was unveiled. This makes it possible to distinguish the town’s history, its religious architecture and public remembrance.
Concerts at Letní Parket
Since 1998, Letní Parket Výrava has hosted concerts featuring Czech and international performers. The year 1998 places the concert series in its historical context; for your trip, the specific date matters, as the schedule and performers change. So check which event suits your preferred travel dates. Letní Parket offers free bus rides to and from all events. Transport arrangements and departure times may vary by event, so plan your journey according to the information for the specific concert. A concert evening is therefore about more than the programme: it also involves planning your transport.
Two Biocentres with Different Features
Biocentrum V ráji was established in 1997 on the Malostranský potok (Číbr) in the cadastral area of the municipality of Výrava. It is an oasis for wildlife and a place for walks. Biocentrum U Vrbiček, also called Ve Vrbičkách, was established in 1996 according to a plan by Ing. Pavel Trávníček, on the Libníkovický potok. The pond within it is sometimes called Vrbičky and covers 1.9588 hectares. Given the similar names, it is worth distinguishing between them: U Vrbiček and Ve Vrbičkách refer to the biocentre, while Vrbičky sometimes refers to the pond. The area figure therefore applies to the pond, not to the entire biocentre. This distinction is useful when choosing a nature-focused visit: V ráji combines walks and wildlife, while U Vrbiček is notable for its named pond and its size.
