Radostov can be understood through its two settlement areas and the course of the stream: StarĂ˝ Radostov forms the western part of the settlement, while NovĂ˝ Radostov lies to the east; the RadostovskĂ˝ potok separates the two. Forests still surround Radostov on three sides. This combines a clearly divided settlement with a strong connection to the landscape. When choosing a place to stay, this provides a useful starting point: Radostov brings together local history, water features and regional routes.
Medieval Manor and Local History
A precise geographical reference point in the area’s history is the former medieval manor. It stood in the floodplain of the Radostovský potok, immediately south of the present-day village centre. Based on the finds, its period of use can be dated from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries to the end of the 15th century. The manor was built in two partially overlapping construction phases. Archaeologically, the former fortress is interpreted as a raised central mound surrounded by a ditch and rampart.
Its location tells us where the former manor stood; the construction phases and finds help establish its form and period of use. Other historical references also belong to different periods: in 1395, Aldyk de Radostow is named as the owner of the village of Starý Radostov. Radostov is also home to a stone cross dating from 1887. The mill now known as “Mlýnek” appears on older maps under the names “Radostovský mlýn” and “Radostower Mühle”. This change of name is useful when interpreting older references to the place: the variants on the maps refer to the same mill, now called “Mlýnek”.
Stream, Water Features and Village Centre
Radostov’s water features include the Radostovský potok, two ponds and a fire-water reservoir. The ponds are used for private fish farming; the reservoir supplies water for firefighting. In addition to their economic and recreational functions, the water features also help retain water. The stream connects two local landmarks: it separates Starý Radostov and Nový Radostov and is itself one of the area’s water features. The fire station building stands in the village centre, with a bell tower on top.
Cycling and Horse-Riding Routes in the Area
For cyclists, checking what cycling infrastructure is available in Radostov and choosing a regional route are two separate planning questions. According to municipal planning, Radostov has no dedicated cycling infrastructure; this may change. Nearby, the 28.1 km Hradec cycling route “Proti proudu ÄŤasu” passes through RadĂkovice and TÄ›chlovice and includes Hrádek u Nechanic. Check current access points and route conditions before setting out.
The “Královéhradecký okruh na koni” horse-riding route also passes through Radostov and continues to Hrádek u Nechanic Castle. The two routes refer to Hrádek u Nechanic in different ways: as a feature of the cycling route and as the destination of the horse-riding circuit. Check route conditions and the availability of riding stations before your trip.
