Cycling routes and specific historical sites offer two distinct ways to explore Urbanice during a stay. You can focus on a longer sequence of routes through the area, or learn about its history through written records, a monument, a group of figures and local tradition.
Cycling and Getting Here
The Po stopách knihoven cycling route passes through Urbanice between Libčany and Praskačka. In the longer route sequence, it runs from Hvozdnice through Urbanice, Praskačka and Sedlice, continuing on to Žižkovec. This sequence helps you find your way beyond Urbanice and decide which section of the route to include in your plans. Check the current route before setting off, as route conditions may change.
Another cycling route, KČT 4199, passes through Urbanice. It follows a local paved road into the village, turns right onto a local paved road there, and crosses the railway line. While the Po stopách knihoven route sequence primarily identifies the places along the route, KČT 4199 provides specific details about the road surface, the turn and the railway crossing. Check the current route and route markings before setting off.
Praskačka railway station is near Urbanice, on the border with the neighbouring municipality and on the Hradec Králové–Velký Osek railway line. If you are considering travelling by train, check the current connections to Praskačka when planning your trip.
Local History and Tradition
Written records document Urbanice in 1465 and 1558. A specific historical monument is dedicated to Mistr Jan Hus: it was erected at the volunteer fire brigade’s own expense. It was unveiled on 30 June 1929 at the edge of the municipal forest, on the road to Pašát. An early written record and a precisely dated event in the village’s history are thus brought together.
The Panna Maria group of figures was erected in 1908. It is located between houses No. 33 and No. 26, opposite house No. 46. The history of the zvoniÄŤka, a small bell tower, is also linked to several dates: the earlier zvoniÄŤka, which had stood since 1860, fell into disrepair and was in danger of collapsing; a new one was built in 1929. These details can be considered as separate historical points alongside the history of the Hus monument, without conflating the two structures.
A local tradition is associated with Pašát Hill, where knights are said to be hiding under the leadership of Petr ze Stěžer. The story adds another element to the village’s history alongside the dated details of buildings and monuments: a legend connected to a named place.
Facilities and Seasonal Information
Urbanice’s children’s playground has swings, a slide with a play castle, climbing frames, a carousel, a table tennis table and workout equipment. If you plan to visit the playground, check the current condition of the equipment beforehand.
The cultural centre has a function room where lectures, small concerts and performances are held. If you want to plan your stay around a specific event, check the dates in advance, as the current programme is essential for your plans.
During the summer months, cyclists and inline skaters stop at the Na Hřišti restaurant. The seasonal opening is relevant to your plans; if you want to eat there, check in advance whether the restaurant is currently open.
