Ledce offers distinct themes for nature and culture enthusiasts: the Dědina, also called Zlatý potok, flows through the village; Chropotínský háj lies within the cadastral areas of Ledce and Očelice, and cycle routes run through Ledce. The village is also home to churches with a history spanning from the late 16th century to the 18th century. This combination gives you concrete starting points for planning your stay around your own interests.
Forest and River in Ledce
Chropotínský háj is a nature reserve, first designated on 14 March 1955. It protects a remnant of a Hercynian oak-hornbeam forest, which in places transitions into an ash-alder floodplain forest. Notable features include a species-rich herb layer and populations of Trichoferus pallidus, a longhorn beetle that is rare in the region. Other xylobiont, or wood-dwelling, insect species are also protected. The area therefore offers a specific way to explore the region’s woodland habitats, not just its landscape in general.
The Ledecké bory forests stretch south of Ledce. A blue-marked hiking trail runs through the forests along the southern edge of the municipality. If you plan to follow this route, check the trail markings locally. The Dědina, also known as Zlatý potok, provides another clear geographical reference point, as it flows through Ledce. Forests and a river therefore offer distinct aspects of the local natural environment.
Cycle Routes and Hiking Trail
For a cycling trip, you can use the listed sequences of places to guide your choice. Marked cycle route No. 222 runs through Hradec Králové, Třebechovice pod Orebem, Ledce and Opočno. Cycle route No. 4166 runs from Ledce through Klášter nad Dědinou, Vysoký Újezd, Jílovice, Výrava, Libřice, Lejšovka and Smržov to Smiřice. The two routes differ mainly in the places listed: No. 222 names a shorter sequence of stops, while No. 4166 gives a detailed sequence all the way to Smiřice. Signposting and surfaces may change; check conditions before setting off.
The hiking trail through the Ledecké bory offers a different focus from the cycle routes: it is described as running along the southern edge of the municipality. The route information helps distinguish this hiking option from the cycle routes, without assuming that they follow the same course. If you want to explore Ledce on foot or by bike, you can first choose between the cycle routes specifically listed and the blue-marked hiking trail.
Churches and Regional Architectural History
The Church of St Mary Magdalene in Ledce is one of the municipality’s three listed religious buildings. It is a specific local point of interest for travellers who want to explore religious architectural history as well as forests and trails.
The Evangelical Reformed congregation in Klášter nad Dědinou was founded in 1782. After the foundation stone was laid, the evangelical church was built by the congregation itself within six months and given a shingle roof. It was solemnly consecrated on 16 October 1785. Permission to build a tower was granted in 1855. These dates mark distinct stages in the history: the founding of the congregation, the construction and consecration of the church, and the later approval to build a tower.
Another architectural point of interest is the Church of St John the Baptist in Klášter nad Dědinou. The Renaissance building dates from the late 16th century; its masonry incorporates stones from the former Cistercian monastery of Svaté Pole. The monastery was destroyed by fire in 1420, at the beginning of the Hussite period. The stones used in the church make the historical connection between the church building and the monastery tangible. Together with the church in Ledce and the history of the Evangelical congregation, this offers different ways to explore religious architectural history without conflating the individual places and buildings.
