The Church of St. Wenceslas on Chloumek and the archaeological traces near Habřina give your stay a distinct historical focus. There is also a blue-marked hiking route and cycle routes, offering different ways to plan excursions.

St. Wenceslas on Chloumek: Several Building Phases

The Church of St. Wenceslas on Chloumek brings together three clearly recognisable building phases. It was originally built as a Gothic structure in the 14th century; it was remodelled in the Renaissance style at the end of the 16th century, followed by an exterior Baroque makeover in 1702. This sequence makes the building interesting for travellers who are not looking for just one style, but want to trace how a religious building changed over several centuries.

The church interior also contains a marble figurative epitaph from 1594 commemorating J. Bedřich Rodovský of Hustířany. The complex also includes the bell tower, gravedigger’s house and surrounding wall. The complex has been listed as an immovable cultural monument since 1964; its register number is 30593/6-600. The protection therefore covers more than just the church building. The complex is currently accessible via a network of paths running close to the site. Check the signage and local conditions before your visit.

Fortifications and Archaeological Traces

The Vračba (Vražba) fortress, the remains of which are locally called Na zámečku, stood on a wooded spur above the left bank of the Hustířanka, less than one kilometre from the centre of today’s municipality of Habřina. Its site is oval in shape and surrounded by a rampart and moat.

The Hrad Neznášov/Rotemberk archaeological site lies on a wooded spur on the left bank of the Hustířanský potok. The spur is 280 to 300 metres long and 15 to 40 metres wide; the site is about 1.4 kilometres north of the built-up area of Habřina. A relief remnant of the perimeter fortification and the remains of a presumably round tower have survived. The oval core of Rotemberk is surrounded by a moat, with a well on its south-eastern side.

Individual historic structures also make their own mark: a stone single-arch bridge over the Hustířanka dates from 1785 and has been protected as a monument since 11 September 1995. In Kouty, an iron cross stands at the former mill site over the grave of a Prussian lieutenant.

Hiking and Cycling Connections

A hiking route, now marked in blue, connects the spa towns of Velichovky with important historic sites in the area, including the Rotenberg hillfort. It passes north of Chloumek on its way towards Černožice. Cycle routes lead from Habřina to Holohlavy and onwards to the Hradec Králové–Kuks cycle route, which they join at the Labi. For planning purposes, the main difference is the type of connection: the hiking route links spa towns and historic destinations, while the cycle network leads from Habřina to a connection on the Elbe. Check the signage and conditions before setting out.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay in Habřina, your preferred way of getting around can help with planning. If you are focusing on architectural history, the church complex on Chloumek, with the nearby network of paths, is a useful reference point; for a cycling trip, the routes via Holohlavy and the connection at the Labi are relevant. This lets you plan your stay around the excursions you actually want to take.
