Holohlavy offers two different ways to explore local history: the originally Gothic Kostel sv. Jana Křtitele in its present Renaissance form, and the former hospital in the historic centre. Sportovní park U Svatých adds another point of interest: a public recreational facility in a landscaped park designed to blend with its natural surroundings, which also includes a preserved section of the historic route. Letní kino adds a local film event to the picture.

Church and Former Hospital

Kostel sv. Jana Křtitele has been documented as a cultural and historical monument since 1357. The originally Gothic building was remodelled into its present Renaissance form in 1584. The dates refer to different aspects: 1357 concerns its historical designation as a monument, while 1584 marks the building’s transformation. This distinction helps separate the church’s historical classification from the later change to its appearance.

The former hospital in Holohlavy was built before 1573 and is located in the historic centre, just a few metres from the village square. It is a single-storey masonry building with a hipped roof. A hipped roof slopes down on the gable ends as well; the term therefore refers to a specific type of roof. Unlike 1584 for the church, the date before 1573 here refers to the building’s construction. Its location, date of construction and architectural form give the former hospital a distinct place in local history.

Visitors wishing to compare the two buildings will find different architectural points of interest: the church is notable for its transformation from its original Gothic form to its Renaissance appearance. The hospital’s character is shaped by its early construction date, single-storey form and hipped roof. Together, they offer different perspectives on Holohlavy’s architectural history.

Sportovní park U Svatých

Sportovní park U Svatých is located in a landscaped park designed to blend with its natural surroundings. As a public, non-profit facility, it is available for recreation and children’s enjoyment. The multi-purpose playing field with artificial turf adds a dedicated sports area to the natural setting. The artificial turf belongs to the playing field, while the park’s design describes its natural surroundings. A preserved and restored section of the historic route is also part of the park complex. The facility thus combines recreation and the history of the route within the same grounds.

Statue at U Svatých

There is also a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk at U Svatých. It was probably created by a pupil of Matyáš Bernard Braun.

Letní kino and When to Visit

Letní kino is a recurring local film event. Editions were held in the park in Holohlavy in 2025 and 2026. For planning a stay, the key difference is timing: the architectural history and park are tied to the place, while Letní kino takes place on specific dates. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Holohlavy, this distinction can help you decide when to travel. If you would like to plan an evening at the cinema, check the current event dates before your trip.
