Prasek offers specific starting points for a trip combining hiking, nature and local history: a green-marked route, the Les Chlum nature trail, and historic places and buildings. You can decide which of these themes to focus on based on your travel plans.
Hiking Route and Getting There
Prasek is served by buses operated by the Integrated Regional Transport system of the Královéhradecký and Pardubický regions (IREDO) and has four bus stops. A green-marked KČT hiking route runs from the bus stop in Prasek via Kunčice to Hrádek u Nechanic Castle; it is approximately ten kilometres long. If you are planning the route as an outing, you can compare its approximate length with your own hiking pace. If you plan to travel to or from Prasek by bus, check the timetable for your travel day. This lets you take the specific route and bus service into account when planning your day.
Forest and the Les Chlum Nature Trail
The Les Chlum nature trail leads towards Prasek and provides information on ten panels, mainly about local plant life and the history of the surrounding area. The trail also leads into a corner of Chlum Forest, to a former sand quarry with a small pond. The route to Hrádek and the Les Chlum nature trail offer different points of focus: a castle as a destination in one case, and information about nature, local history and a site of former sand extraction in the other. This gives you the choice between a route with a named destination and a nature trail covering nature and history.
Church and Historic Traces
The neo-Gothic Church of the Sacred Heart of the Lord was built between 1898 and 1900 and stands right beside the road to Zdechovice. As a filial church, it belongs to the parish of Nový Bydžov. The service schedule, updated on 22 December 2025, lists a service in the church every other Sunday at 11:15 a.m.; check the date before your visit. The construction period and architecture provide a historical context, while the service schedule offers a specific time to plan a visit around.
Another cultural site is the Prasek “Chlum” archaeological site, with fortification remains of a hillfort belonging to the Lusatian culture. There is also a partisan memorial at the edge of the forest outside Prasek. The archaeological site and the memorial add archaeological and commemorative themes to the local history, while the church represents the history of architecture.
Prasek was first mentioned in 1312. The village was probably founded as a strip-shaped colonisation settlement on the site of a former forest complex. In the 18th century, Prasek grew with the construction of small houses. The village’s history thus spans from 1312, through its growth in the 18th century, to the church’s construction around 1900; the explanation of its founding remains a probability. Taken together, these themes offer different reasons to explore the village’s history: from its possible settlement form and later development of its buildings to archaeological and religious traces.
