A vanished fortress and a red-marked hiking trail give Lubno two distinct historical perspectives: traces of the former fortification lie by the Bystřice, while the hiking route reaches the edge of the village and continues to Nechanice. There are also local monuments and tours of Hrádek u Nechanic Castle. This makes Lubno a destination where you can explore history, culture and outdoor activities.

Fortress History and Monuments in Lubno

Before the Bystřice was regulated, the site of the now-vanished castle stood on the northeastern edge of the village. The Vyšehrad locality is on the opposite northern bank and is associated with the former fortress. Today, there are meadows there without any visible terrain features. The historical connection is therefore part of the village’s history, not a visible castle ruin.

Finds and interpretations relating to Vyšehrad also offer insight into the early history of the place. Before 1913, archaeologists J. L. Píč and L. Domečka found fragments of pottery from an ancient settlement there. Their interpretation leaves several possibilities open: it may have been a vanished early Slavic settlement or the original location of Lubno, or part of it. These alternatives inform the interpretation of the site; they do not establish a definite attribution.

Another chapter in the village’s history can be encountered at its monuments. In front of the former Andrlova hospoda stands a protected Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John the Baptist with a lamb. Beside it is a slightly older brick well. In the centre, a monument commemorates the victims of the 1866 battle. At the bend towards Dolní Přím stands a stone bell tower with a crucifixion monument. These places highlight different aspects: religious sculpture, a well and the memory of the battle.

Hrádek u Nechanic Castle: Construction History, Tours and Park

Hrádek u Nechanic Castle was built between 1839 and 1857 in the style of Romantic Windsor Gothic. It served as a residence for the Harrach noble family, where they could receive guests and display their status. Its period of construction and architecture offer a different way to explore history than the former fortress of Lubno: here, the focus is on a 19th-century castle, while in Lubno, it is on the memory of a vanished fortification.

Several tours of the castle are available to visitors. They introduce the life of the nobility in reception rooms, private apartments and guest rooms. The tours on offer may change, so check the current options before your visit. The castle also has an extensive English landscape park, which is ideal for a walk. The castle interiors and the park thus offer two different ways to visit.

The Anny z Harrachu Café is located inside the castle building, near St. Anne’s Chapel. During the season, seating is available indoors and outdoors; card payments are accepted. Here too, it is worth checking the latest visitor information before planning your visit.

Walking and Cycling in the Nechanicko Region

The red-marked hiking trail passes through Hrádek and Jehlický vech to the edge of Lubno, then continues to Nechanice. It ends there at Štrossovy sady, where there are graves from the 1866 war. The route thus links several of the places mentioned with a historical destination in Nechanice. Check the local trail markers before setting off.

The information here describes different options for choosing between a stroll and a longer hike: the landscape park at the castle is ideal for a walk, while the red-marked trail continues as far as Nechanice. For those interested in cycling, the wider Nechanicko region offers a regional setting. Its landscape is mostly flat, with gently rolling sections, and is suited to recreational cycling. This description broadens the perspective on Lubno to include the surrounding region.
