Discover Lišice across several historical periods: near Vyšehrad is a hillfort site dating from the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age; the former settlement of Tečmín belongs to a later chapter; and the painter Vincenc Beneš was born here in 1883. Directions, a longer route and the Pálení čarodějnic festival add to the historical themes. This lets you plan your visit according to your interests without confusing the different places and historical periods.

Hills and navigation

On the route from Chlumec nad Cidlinou to Lišice, the 267-metre-high Liščí kopec is about 400 metres before the entrance to the village. To navigate towards Lišičky, the access route from Lišice follows a paved road, then takes the first surfaced turning towards Vyšehrad. There, a former forester’s lodge stands alone. These waypoints provide specific directions, while the hill is located on the approach from the direction of Chlumec.

Vincenc Beneš and the history of the village

Vincenc Beneš, a representative of Czech Cubism, was born in Lišice on 22 January 1883. His birthplace gives the village a personal connection to art history. On the occasion of his 110th birthday, a memorial plaque was installed on the former Lišice school building. It was designed by Jan Holinka, an academic sculptor from Pardubice. The story of Beneš adds the biography of an individual artist to the archaeological themes.

Vyšehrad and Tečmín: two historical snapshots

The extensive hillfort site near Vyšehrad is attributed to the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age and dated to around the 7th century BC. Archaeological investigations began in 1956. They uncovered the extensive ground plan of an oppidum, as well as wrought-iron tools, animal bones, domestic pottery and charred beams. The ground plan, tools and everyday pottery each convey different aspects of the site and its material remains.

The former settlement of Tečmín, located near Lišice, is documented for the period from 1299 to 1454. It included three ponds and a fortified manor. In 1571, Tečmín was mentioned only as pastureland and a hillfort with ramparts and a ditch; the settlement no longer exists as a village. The contrast between the settlement, ponds and manor on the one hand, and its later description as pastureland and a hillfort on the other, illustrates the different historical contexts.

The route from Vyšehrad reaches Rybník Hejlovec. A burial site is believed to be located near the pond. Its exact location is uncertain; the route itself leads to the pond.

Route and practical planning

A longer route in the Lišice area is approximately 20 kilometres long. At this length, it is worth planning it as a separate activity. Dry conditions are recommended, as forestry machinery may be operating on forest paths. This advice concerns the route conditions; the distance alone does not make it possible to determine a walking time.

Festival and sport fishing

The Pálení čarodějnic festival was celebrated in Lišice in three consecutive years: 2024, 2025 and 2026. If the date is important for your trip, check the event details in advance.

Farma Lišice lies on the edge of the municipality, near the town of Chlumec nad Cidlinou, and is primarily dedicated to sport fishing. The nearly four-hectare enclosed site contains a former sand-pit pond covering 1.25 hectares, stocked with trophy fish. If you would like to include Farma in your plans, check its operating arrangements before visiting.
