A park with 25 kilometres of trails, a challenging route along the wooded banks of the Vltava, and Baroque pilgrimage history show how varied a trip to Prague-West District can be. Nature and culture are not interchangeable items on an itinerary: parks, educational trails, castle rooms and brewing culture each offer a different way to explore the area. When choosing accommodation, it is therefore worth first considering which of these discoveries you want to shape your stay.

Park landscapes and trails in Průhonice

Průhonice Park brings together landscapes, historic views and ponds. It is a national historic landmark of the Czech Republic and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its 25 kilometres of trails can be explored with a paper map or the SmartGuide app; guided tours can also be booked. Check the availability of your preferred tour and navigation aid before your trip. This lets you plan your visit around the options you would like to use.

Skalka between pilgrimage history and culture

The Skalka Way of the Cross has 14 chapels and is open year-round, free of charge. Nevertheless, check seasonal access rules before your visit. The Skalka Baroque complex hosts weddings, exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events; the programme may change. Its history also reflects changing visitor interests: after 1762, Skalka became a pilgrimage site, and from the late 19th century it developed into a tourist destination. If you are planning to attend an event, check the current dates in advance.

An easy loop or a challenging educational trail

An easy circular hike around Jílové follows part of the Jílovské vyhlídky educational trail. The Svatojánské proudy educational trail is more demanding: it starts in Štěchovice, follows the wooded banks of the Vltava for nine kilometres and ends in Třebenice. The route is described as challenging. This gives you a choice between an easy loop and a longer, challenging educational trail for a day of hiking. Jílové u Prahy can be reached from Prague by direct buses that run several times an hour. Check the timetable and connection before setting off.

Another hiking route runs from Řevnice towards Skalka, passing the Lesní divadlo and continuing through deciduous forest. A detour to Babka is possible along the way; the route also offers views of the surrounding Brdy forests. The named routes differ both in length and in the landscapes they pass through.

Breweries with their own character

Pivovar Řevnice is located right next to Řevnice railway station. It was established in a former railway building. Traditional Czech cuisine is served there, and the Řevnická 10° and Řevnická 12° beers are offered and brewed; the menu and beer availability may change. Brewery experiences include a day with the brewer and a home-brewing course. Check their availability in advance, too. At Pivovar Kytín, the restaurant’s ground floor houses an open brewhouse. Visitor arrangements may change; check the current rules before your visit.

Castle rooms, water and places to visit

At Mníšek pod Brdy Castle, the guided tours each focus on different things. The first shows representative salons from the First Republic, while the second explores private aristocratic rooms and the everyday life of the nobility. Other tours lead to the roof structures and towers, which offer views of the surroundings. The castle also has a park with lavender, flowers and fountains. This allows you to combine a look inside living quarters and castle architecture with a stroll through a landscaped garden.

At the Slapy Reservoir, options include swimming, relaxing on the beach and exploring the surrounding landscape; conditions for recreational activities may vary by season. The ruins of Okoř Castle are a destination for tourists and cyclists. Okoř can be reached by car and public transport; check current routes before travelling. Together with the hiking trails, castle visits and brewery experiences, this offers a range of different discoveries from which you can shape your stay around your own interests.
