If you are considering a stay in Tuchoměřice, you can choose between two clear themes: architectural history at the castle, parish church and granary, or experiences in nature and on the trails. The buildings bring together different dates; for time outdoors, there is a red-marked hiking trail as well as cycling routes and tour options. This lets you plan your trip around your own interests without having to combine the themes into a set itinerary.

Architectural history at three specific landmarks

The Renaissance castle Zámek sv. Víta stands on a hill above Tuchoměřice. The oldest parts of the present-day building date from after 1665. This dating draws attention to the architectural history of the current building, rather than reducing the castle to a single year of origin.

Kostel sv. Víta is the parish church of Tuchoměřice. Its east façade was completed between 1732 and 1736 and bears sandstone statues that are believed to come from the workshop of Matyáš Bernard Braun.

The granary adds its own date to this architectural history: it dates from 1711 and has been preserved almost in its original form. The comparison therefore offers three different reference points: the oldest parts of the present-day castle from after 1665, the granary from 1711, and the church’s east façade, completed between 1732 and 1736. These dates refer to different buildings or parts of buildings, so they can be read as separate chapters rather than as the dating of a single building.

Landscape and geological traces

The Kněžívka natural landmark landscape has been under state protection since 1978. The Únětický potok flows through Tuchoměřice. These natural features are distinct: Kněžívka is a protected landscape area, while the stream is a watercourse that runs through the town.

A geological trace can be seen on the most prominent peak, known locally as Kobyla: smoothed surfaces are considered traces of the surf of the Cretaceous Sea in Bohemia. Alongside the protected status and watercourse, this offers an interpretation of the landforms as a possible reason to visit.

On foot and by bike

A red-marked hiking trail leads from Tuchoměřice, and cycling route CT 0078 runs through the town. There are also several cycling routes around Tuchoměřice that follow farm tracks or lightly trafficked roads. Tuchoměřice is a suitable starting point for half-day or full-day cycling tours in the surrounding area. The route information differs by activity: for hiking, the red markings provide orientation; for cycling, a numbered route and information about farm tracks and lightly trafficked roads are helpful.

When planning your stay, two different time frames come into play: you can compare the buildings by their dates, while cycling tours in the surrounding area can take half a day or a full day. If you are considering Tuchoměřice as a destination, you can decide whether to devote more of your time to architectural history or to an active day on the bike.
