Hradistko combines routes through the landscape with a wide variety of historical themes. Nature trails lead to the traces of a medieval settlement and the history of the municipality during the Second World War; other routes focus on river views or nature. When planning your visit, it’s worth first deciding which of these themes you want to shape your stay.
Nature Trails Between Recent History and the Middle Ages
The Vystěhované Hradištko nature trail runs for 8.5 kilometres through the municipality of Hradištko and has ten information stops. It is open year-round and suitable for hiking. Its subject is the forced displacement of the municipality during the Second World War, the SS training ground, the concentration camp and the fates of several prisoners. The route thus combines a hike with an exploration of the area’s history.
Sekanka offers a different historical focus. The Sekanka nature trail has ten stops around the remains of a fortified, vanished town. The Sekanka–Ostrov–Kilián nature trail features ten information panels about the findings of archaeological research and virtual representations of medieval buildings. Research at Sekanka and Ostrov yielded insights into medieval life and marked an important milestone in Czech archaeology.
The Regional Museum in Jílové u Prahy also explores this history: the Sekanka, soutok, Ostrov a Kilián nature trail is an external part of its permanent exhibition. The exhibition Ora et labora covers the vanished medieval settlement at Hradišťku u Davle and features 3D visualisations of the monastery at various stages of development. This means the subject can be explored both through stops in the landscape and through an exhibition with spatial representations.
Routes with River Views and a History of Their Own
The Posázavská Trail was created by the Club of Czech Tourists and opened in 1920. Its final section runs close to the Sázava; from the Klimentova and Raisova viewpoints, you can look out over the river meanders. The trail also passes early tramp settlements in the wider Posázaví region, including Arizona and Staré kamarády.
Other routes offer different highlights: cycle route 8199 passes through Hradištko. The Láska za okupace route runs from the centre of Hradištko through the forest to the Sázava and Petrov u Prahy railway station.
Medník: Protected Landscape and Visitor Information
The Medník National Nature Monument lies within the cadastral area of Hradištko pod Medníkem. The site comprises wooded slopes of a hill with mining pits, as well as rocks on the left bank of the Sázava. It can be reached from the road via a walkable tourist path. Visitors are advised to stay on marked paths within the nature monument. The Medník nature trail includes play features; there is a rest area at a viewpoint below Malý Medník.
Hradištko Chateau offers another historical point of interest: its garden is enclosed by a wall with niches containing Stations of the Cross chapels. The chateau is classified as a cultural monument that is partially accessible. Check current access arrangements before visiting, as the classification does not specify detailed visitor conditions.
When choosing a hotel in Hradistko, use your interests as a guide: recent history, medieval archaeology, river views or the landscape around Medník. That way, you can start planning with the experiences that genuinely interest you.
