Roztoky offers several different ways to explore its history: Archevita focuses on prehistory, while Roztocké Tiché údolà is associated with the development of a villa resort. Educational trails and a digitally supported tour round out the cultural offerings. When planning a short trip, a simple choice can help: would you primarily like to visit exhibitions, learn about historic domestic culture, or explore the surroundings along a themed route? The offerings focus on different aspects, so you can shape your stay around your own interests.
Prehistory at Archevita
Archevita is a multimedia archaeological exhibition about prehistory. It features scale reconstructions of prehistoric dwellings, archaeological finds and reconstructed burial sites. The dwellings and burial sites provide a sense of space, while the finds offer a tangible way to explore prehistory. Holographic projections and video mapping add digital forms of presentation to the exhibition. Interactive educational content is available at information kiosks. Archevita is a good fit if you are interested in archaeology and different ways of presenting it.
Villa resort and historic domestic culture
Roztocké Tiché údolà is considered the oldest place of its kind in terms of its history as a villa resort. Villas for summer stays were being built there as early as after 1851. The exhibition Život v letovisku explores domestic culture through objects: it displays furnishings from different periods, home accessories, tableware and examples of historic fashion. The objects often come from villas in Roztoky. The focus is therefore not only on villas as buildings, but also on the objects used in daily life and clothing.
Ateliér Zdenky Braunerové
The Ateliér Zdenky Braunerové exhibition brings together an art collection and restored architectural features. It includes more than seventy paintings by Zdenka Braunerová and features restored doors, shutters and wooden beam ceilings with their original colours and surface finishes. Both the paintings and the restored interior design are therefore part of the visit. From April to October, the exhibition is open only on guided tours, Wednesday to Sunday. Check visiting hours again before you travel.
Educational trails and a self-guided tour
The Roztocký háj – Tiché údolà educational trail passes through the nature reserves. The Levý Hradec educational trail is 800 metres long and has eight stops. The two routes offer different points to consider when choosing: the defining feature of Roztocký háj – Tiché údolà is its route through the nature reserves; Levý Hradec has a specified length and number of stops.
The Paměť města project supports a self-guided tour with QR codes, historical photographs and a mobile app with audio content. This lets you weigh up different ways of exploring: exhibitions use objects and multimedia content, educational trails focus on their routes and stops, and Paměť města uses QR codes and audio. One other distinction is important when planning: Ateliér Zdenky Braunerové is open only seasonally and by guided tour, while the length of the Levý Hradec trail is specified.
