Trnová combines medieval architectural history with horse-riding options and practical opportunities for bus trips and cycling. During a stay, these themes can be clearly distinguished: the Church of the Holy Spirit (Kostel sv. Ducha) and Chateau Trnová represent cultural history; horse riding, the Dětské hřiště children’s leisure area and cycling offer other perspectives on the town.

Church and Cultural Heritage

The core of the Church of the Holy Spirit (Kostel sv. Ducha) dates from the first half of the 14th century. A bricked-up Gothic portal in the north wall of the nave points to this building phase. The portal is not an open passageway; as an architectural detail, it nevertheless makes the medieval design easier to understand.

In 1720, Františka Terezie Minetti, née Fritschmannová z Ehrenkronu and owner of Trnová, had the church restored. The medieval core and the restoration thus provide two clearly distinct points in time in its building history. The gravestone of the restorer of Kostel sv. Ducha remains preserved in the floor of the nave to this day.

Chateau Trnová is also among the historic sites: the building was declared a National Cultural Monument by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic in 1994. At the church, the focus is on building phases and a surviving detail; at the chateau, it is on the heritage designation, its year and the responsible authority.

Horse Riding and Landscape

Jezdecký Areál Trnová rents out riding-school ponies or horses for rides in the surroundings of Cukrák and in the Brdy forests. Riding lessons are also available, up to the ZZVJ riding licence examination. Confirm availability if you are planning a ride or lesson in advance.

The facility includes riding halls measuring 20 × 50 m and 25 × 65 m, as well as a round hall with a diameter of 18 m. Based on their dimensions, the two rectangular halls have calculated floor areas of 1,000 and 1,625 m², respectively. For the round hall, the diameter is given instead. The grounds around the facility are suitable for relaxing rides through the forests, woodland and meadows of the Vltava landscape.

More Things to See Locally

The Dětské hřiště children’s leisure area in Trnová is intended for children aged 3 to 14. If you are planning a visit with children, you can take this specifically stated age range into account when choosing activities.

Biotop pod krčmou also has a clear time reference: its revitalisation was completed in 2021. The adjacent pond was also repaired and cleaned as part of the work. Both the biotope and the pond were therefore part of the completed project.

Getting There and Cycling

Bus route 318 runs from the Prague stops Praha–Lihovar or Smíchovské nádraží to the stops “Trnová – Domov Borová” and “Trnová”. Check the timetable before departure, as schedules can change.

A cycling trip passes through the village of Trnová and then joins the Mníšecko-Č cycling route; check route conditions before setting out. For local information, the municipality maintains a page titled “Cyklotrasy Mníšecko” with a section called “Cyklotrasy Trnová”. The bus information gives specific stops, while the cycling description explains the route through the village and the subsequent connection to the cycling route.
