Všenory offers several themes to explore during a stay: literature, religious architectural history and arboreal diversity. The museum focuses on a notable figure, the church and chapel represent different architectural forms, and the arboretum is devoted to an extensive collection of trees and shrubs. When choosing accommodation, you can start by considering which of these themes interests you most. The railway station adds a practical aspect to getting your bearings in the area.
Museum and Architectural History
The Všenory Museum – Marina Tsvetaeva Centre is located in the Všenory cultural centre. The exhibition explores the poet’s life and work, giving the town a clear literary connection.
The Church of Saint Wenceslas in Všenory is listed as a cultural monument by the Czech Ministry of Culture. Its architectural history includes an original Romanesque form and a reconstruction in the 1730s, when the church was redesigned in the Baroque style on a cruciform ground plan. The ground plan describes the layout; the building’s history brings together an early Romanesque phase and its later Baroque design.
The Chapel of Saint John the Baptist offers a different architectural connection. Built in the Neo-Renaissance style, it stands above the Nolč family crypt. While the Church of Saint Wenceslas is notable for its sequence of building phases, the chapel is distinguished by its style and connection to the family crypt.
The art-historical theme also includes the “Mokropecký Altar.” The three-panel painting on wood comes from a late-Gothic Marian altarpiece dating to the beginning of the 16th century. Today, it is kept in the depot of the Prague Archbishopric.
Arboretum and Historic Park
The Všenory Arboretum covers 2.5 hectares on a north-facing slope. Its collection includes around 3,500 different species and cultivars of trees and shrubs; this number may change as the arboretum develops. Examples include yews, thujas, spruces, oaks, beeches, cypresses, larches, pines, birches, Douglas firs, firs and ginkgos. The focus here is on a wide variety of trees and shrubs, rather than on a single species.
Visits to the arboretum are possible at any time by prior arrangement by phone. Please arrange your visit by phone in advance. This lets you plan your visit around the required arrangement.
The Teyrovský Voluptuary is another point of interest in garden and landscape history. This historic park covered four hectares and was also botanically notable. The arboretum is defined by its collection and hillside setting, while the Teyrovský Voluptuary is notable for its historic parkland, size and botanical significance. Together, the two sites offer distinct aspects of the town’s green character.
