Vonoklasy combines a nature trail on the northern edge of the village with architectural evidence from different periods and a variety of nature-related themes. The Okolím Vonoklas circular route is designed as a nature trail and focuses on the Český kras Protected Landscape Area, nature and the landscape. Notable places include a wayside chapel, Velká skála viewpoint and Karasova vyhlídka, a paragliding launch site. The first written mention of Vonoklasy dates from 1227. The landscape, geology and village history each offer their own points of interest for exploring the area.

Nature Trail and Getting Around

The Okolím Vonoklas circular route runs along the northern edge of Vonoklasy and is a nature trail. Its themes are the Český kras Protected Landscape Area, nature and the landscape. Along the way, the route passes the wooden wayside chapel of P. Marie, which dates from 1893. The nature trail thus connects landscape-related themes with a specific historic structure along the route.

Velká skála lies near the northwestern section of the nature trail and serves as a viewpoint. At the southwestern end of the trail is Karasova vyhlídka, a paragliding launch site. The two places therefore serve different purposes. Another point of reference is the Na návsi signpost in Vonoklasy, where five tourist routes meet.

Chapels and Village History

The village chapels can be distinguished by their architectural style, location and date of construction. The wooden wayside chapel of P. Marie is on the nature trail and dates from 1893. The neo-Gothic chapel of sv. Václava stands in the village square. It dates from 1887 and has a bell tower. The dates are only six years apart, but the buildings differ clearly in style and location.

Another point of reference in the village’s history is the former Baroque farmstead No. 12, the only protected cultural monument in Vonoklasy. It comprises a residential building with a log-built core, a decorative gateway and a free-standing wooden granary on a stone base. The surviving wooden building of the former farmstead has served as a granary since the early 19th century. The first written mention of Vonoklasy dates back much further, to 1227.

Nature, Geology and Special Habitats

The former Ve skále quarry offers a geological highlight. It features an outcrop with folds between the Silurian and Devonian periods. The site also has a relatively rich fossil fauna, particularly trilobites and bivalves. Here, geological structures and fossils take centre stage, while the nature trail focuses on the nature and landscape of Český kras.

Vonoklasy is home to ecosystems of deciduous forests, woodland-steppe and steppe formations, as well as scree slopes; there are also numerous protected plant and animal species. A pedunculate oak protected as a natural monument is estimated to be about 600 years old. U louže is a different kind of habitat: communities of aquatic plants and animals have survived at this small water body. The nature-related themes thus range from different landscape types to a single body of water and a distinctive tree.
