Holubice offers clearly distinct themes for planning a trip: sacred architecture, an archaeological trace south of the village and a yellow-marked hiking trail over Kozinec. The buildings range from the Romanesque Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary to two Baroque chapels. Cultural and historical details and a hiking option therefore provide different focal points side by side.

Romanesque and Baroque Sacred Architecture

The Romanesque Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is Holubice’s most important monument. Original Romanesque frescoes have been preserved inside. This brings together two specific aspects for a cultural appreciation of the church: the building’s Romanesque architecture and the original paintings inside. Anyone interested in sacred architecture will find a clear focal point here, stylistically distinct from the Baroque chapels.

The Chapel of Saint Gotthard defines the village centre and is an important example of High Baroque religious art on a small scale, dating from 1769. Compared with the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the emphasis here is on its High Baroque style and the chapel’s role in the village’s appearance, while the church brings together Romanesque architecture and original frescoes. The two buildings thus offer different perspectives on the local sacred architecture.

The Chapel of Saint Michael in Kozinec offers another Baroque perspective. It was built by Jesuits in 1739. The site includes the chapel, a retaining wall and a staircase. The interior features a simple dome and figurative frescoes. The retaining wall and staircase describe the components of the site, while the dome and figurative paintings characterise the interior design. The chapel can thus be understood not only through its Baroque style, but also through the interplay between the site and its features.

An Archaeological Trace and a Hiking Trail

Another point of interest is Ers Hill south of Holubice. In the forest is an elongated burial mound, probably prehistoric, measuring approximately 30 × 18 metres. Unlike the church and chapels, the focus here is an archaeological trace in a woodland setting; its elongated shape and approximate dimensions set it apart from the architectural details of the religious buildings.

A yellow-marked trail leading via Kozinec to Holubice is one of the hiking options. Check the trail markings before setting out. The route offers a different focus from the buildings: it is a hiking option, while the churches, chapels and Ers Hill provide cultural themes for planning a trip. If hiking is to be part of your stay, you can consider this route alongside the cultural highlights.

Weddings in the Rotunda

The Holubice Rotunda can be used as an alternative wedding venue within the cadastral area of Holubice for a fee of CZK 3,000. If you plan to use this option, confirm the booking conditions in advance.
