In Nebílovy, Baroque architecture can be seen in a clear design: the chateau was built at the beginning of the 18th century as a High Baroque structure in the style of a Viennese palace. Two horseshoe-shaped buildings face each other across the courtyard. The interior is also decorated with wall paintings by Antonín Tuvora. The chateau is considered a cultural and social centre of southern Plzeňsko. For architecture enthusiasts, it combines a distinctive architectural concept with a regional cultural connection.
Educational trails with different themes
The educational trail in Nebílovy is a 5.7-kilometre loop with six information panels. It focuses on the history, fauna and flora of Nebílovy and its surroundings. One of its stops is the Chapel of St Barbara, built in 1859 above a spring. The trail thus brings together local history and nature on a circular route.
The Pod Zelenou horou trail is almost 4.5 kilometres long and has nine information panels. It is suitable for walkers, cyclists, families with children and people with pushchairs. One of its stops is Klášter, which was established on the ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian monastery. The educational trail starts in Nepomuk, goes around Zelená Hora Castle and continues to Klášter. This gives you a clear distinction when choosing a route: the shorter Pod Zelenou horou trail has nine information panels, while the longer Nebílovy loop has six.
Chateaux, monasteries and sacred architecture
Přeštice is home to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the largest Baroque church in the Czech Republic outside Prague. It has been a national cultural monument since 2008. Chotěšov Monastery offers a different historical focus: Blessed Hroznata founded it between 1202 and 1210, and it was remodelled in the Baroque style between 1734 and 1756. Today, the complex houses a museum about the history of the monastery and is open to the public seasonally. As visiting arrangements may change during restoration, check the latest opening dates and access information before travelling.
Spálené Poříčí Castle also has a museum connection: it houses the National Ethnographic Museum of the Spálené Poříčí Region. Together, these different buildings offer distinct ways to explore history—from the High Baroque complex in Nebílovy and the church in Přeštice to the monastic history of Chotěšov.
Landscape, crafts and practical information
Mariina skála is located in Kornatický potok Nature Park. The “Za mlynáři od Bradavy” educational trail focuses on the history of milling in the Bradava Valley near Spálené Poříčí. Nebílovy has a long tradition of growing pome and stone fruits, including apples and plums. Alongside architecture, nature, crafts and agriculture therefore offer different themes to explore.
For cyclists, Route 2126 connects Plzeň-Černice with Nebílovy. There is a large car park on the outskirts of Nebílovy, on the road from Plzeň. As local visitor facilities may change, check the latest information about the car park before setting out.
