An early Baroque castle, a round gloriette and a nature trail that runs mostly through woodland each give Žinkovy a distinct character. The castle reflects several building phases; the Templ combines a distinctive architectural form with a clearly defined historical purpose. Outdoors, you can choose between different walking options: a stroll around the castle and Labuť Pond, or the Klejnot nature trail with its six stops.

Castle History and Architecture

Žinkovy Castle was built in the second half of the 17th century on the site of an earlier fortress as an early Baroque castle. In 1897, it was remodelled in the Neo-Renaissance style by the Viennese architects H. Helmer and F. Fellner. The castle therefore has two clearly distinguishable building phases: its early Baroque origins and the later Neo-Renaissance remodelling. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the castle was remodelled in the Neo-Gothic style; its features include a new tripartite altar and rich stucco decoration. The Neo-Gothic chapel adds another architectural accent alongside the castle’s two building phases.

The Žinkovský Templ

The Žinkovský Templ stands on Františkov Hill near Žinkovy. It is a round gloriette built as an imitation of an ancient temple, with eight columns in the Tuscan order. Originally, it served as a picnic and hunting retreat for the owners of the Žinkovy estate. The historical features are clearly distinct: the castle is notable for its origins and later remodelling, while the Templ stands out for its round shape, ancient inspiration and former use.

Ponds and Nature Trail

Žinkovy has two large ponds, Labuť and Žinkovský rybník. They share a water surface and are divided by a bridge connected to the avenue on the opposite side. You can take a walk around Žinkovy Castle and Labuť Pond. Another walking option is the Klejnot nature trail: it is about 4.5 km long, runs mostly through woodland and is intended for pedestrians. Its six stops feature information boards and stories, as well as mostly carved animals or play elements. The two options differ in character: the loop focuses on the castle and pond surroundings, while Klejnot combines a woodland route with stops.

Collection, Museum and Spring

The local history collection of the Žinkovy region is on the ground floor of the municipal office building on the town square. Larger groups must book their visit by phone. The Žinkovy Tourist Information Centre sells maps, tourist stamps and tourist postcards; it also offers guided tours of the museum. If you are planning a guided tour, check the latest information from the Tourist Information Centre in advance, as services may change.

The restored Šindelářojc Chapel also adds its own cultural accent: it stands by the Dobrá voda spring. Local tradition holds that the water has healing properties. Here, the restored chapel and local lore about the spring come together.
