Čižice combines a granite-island landscape with traces of stoneworking, a Baroque chapel and a family microbrewery. Marked trails and the village green add outdoor activities and local events to the village scene. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your trip around the themes that shape Čižice: local history, landscape, activity and brewing culture.

Stone, History and Landscape

Čižice lies in what is known as a granite-island landscape. The local granite led to the opening of quarries, which provided a livelihood for many residents. Local stoneworking flourished from around 1870.

Jelení vrch rises above Čižice to 519 metres above sea level. The Vysoká woodland lies east of the village.

Chapel and Village Green

The first written mention of Čižice dates from 1115; at the time, the Kladruby Monastery is said to have owned an estate there. The Chapel of Saint Adalbert is a Baroque building dating from the mid-18th century. Its original structure has been preserved, both in its substance and in its details. Together with the nearby memorial cross, it is a preserved cultural and historical feature of the Čižice village green.

In Čižice, summer entertainment events held on an open-air dance floor are known as “Čihule”. This adds a contemporary local tradition to the historical associations of the village green.

Hiking, Climbing and Outdoor Activities

A yellow-marked hiking route from Čižice crosses a bridge over the Úhlava to the Kozí kámen rock. At the Čižice bridge, leave the red-marked hiking trail, cross the bridge and then continue along the yellow markers. Check the markings on site before setting out.

Near Čižice, a preserved rocky landscape with pointed towers several metres high lies on the summit of Vysoká. There are several climbing routes and bolts on the rocks, which are also visited by beginner climbers.

Two cycling routes pass through Čižice; route details may change. The Úhlava near Čižice is used for paddling, although conditions vary by season. If you are planning a cycling or paddling trip, check the route or water conditions in advance.

Beer from Čižice

Pivovar Bizon is a family microbrewery in Čižice; it opened in 2011 as part of the adjacent Hostinec U Bizona. Its range includes Pilsner-style lagers as well as top-fermented, dry-hopped beers. The beers are neither filtered nor pasteurised.

Events and When to Visit

Husova pouť is celebrated on 6 July on the village green, which is lined with lime trees; the specific programme may change. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for the occasion, check the details for the relevant date.
