The Late Baroque Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross gives Soběkury a distinctive architectural feature. There is also the Reconciliation Stone, cycling routes through the village, and a downhill run for skiers and tobogganers. About 3 km west of Soběkury stands the memorial stone to Jakub Rada; nearby, a path about one kilometre long also leads to Jahodový vrch. Culture, cycling, winter sports and a woodland path offer different points of interest when planning a stay.
Chapel and memorial stones
The Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Soběkury is a Late Baroque, octagonal central-plan building with a domed roof and lantern. It was built in 1826–1827 at the community’s expense. A central-plan building is organised around a central point; the octagon describes its ground plan, while the domed roof and lantern define the roof structure. The style designation describes its architectural classification, while 1826–1827 gives the specific construction period. This gives architecture enthusiasts both the design and the building history to consider.
The Reconciliation Stone in Soběkury is a granite block with a carved four-armed cross. It marks the place where a travelling weaver was robbed and killed. The memorial stone to Jakub Rada commemorates Jakub Rada, who was killed by a tree in 1704. The stone stands at the eastern edge of the Kvíčová forest, near “U rybníčků”, about 3 km west of Soběkury. The two memorial sites differ both in the events they commemorate and in their locations: one marks the scene of the event, while the other commemorates a named individual at the edge of the forest.
Cycling routes and downhill run
The cycling route known as “Dětská” runs between Dnešice and Merklín through Soběkury. Another connection is cycling route 2185 from Přeštice to Staňkov, which passes through Soběkury at kilometre 8. A duration of 113 minutes is given for route 2185; that is 1 hour and 53 minutes. When comparing the routes, the named places along Dětská and the additional kilometre marker and time given for route 2185 provide different points of reference.
Soběkury also has a downhill run for skiers and tobogganers. This offers another specific activity option for a stay, alongside the cycling routes.
Jahodový vrch: a woodland path without expansive views
Near Soběkury, a path about one kilometre long leads to Jahodový vrch. It follows a woodland path and is suitable for individuals and families with older children, but is not designed for pushchairs. Jahodový vrch lies in the forest; the surrounding trees prevent expansive views of the landscape. If you are specifically looking for a panoramic view, bear this difference in mind when choosing: here, the woodland setting and path conditions take precedence, not a sweeping vista.
