Borovno combines protected landscapes with a river, rural buildings and routes for hikers and cyclists. Natural features and settlement history sit side by side here. For planning, it is important to consider the geographical scale: a marked cycle route runs through Borovno, while the dense network of forestry access roads belongs to the wider area of the Brdy Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Brdy).

Landscape, Water and Protected Nature

Parts of Borovno’s administrative area lie within the Brdy Protected Landscape Area, specifically in zones II, III and IV. The southern part of the administrative area lies within Brdy Nature Park. The Bradava River is a European Site of Community Importance under Natura 2000 (EVL). Within Borovno, it flows through several flow-through ponds; along the southern edge of the administrative area, it flows through the Dolní Borovno area.

Two sites of the specially protected European globeflower are found in meadows south of Borovno’s built-up area. Alongside the protected areas and the Bradava, these meadow sites add a distinct natural feature to the south of the administrative area. Borovno’s natural character thus encompasses both larger landscapes and specific features of the river and meadows.

Exploring on Foot and by Bike

A marked cycle route runs through Borovno along a Class III road. The administrative area is also crisscrossed by access roads that make suitable tourist routes. The undeveloped area can be reached via existing local roads, access roads, forest and field tracks, cycle routes and marked hiking trails. When planning, you can therefore choose between cycling and hiking as distinct activities; both are supported by the types of routes mentioned.

In the wider area of the Brdy Protected Landscape Area, most of the land is crisscrossed by a dense network of forestry access roads. Motor vehicles are not permitted on these roads; they are suitable for hiking and cycling. This wider setting complements the local routes in Borovno with a view of the routes within the Brdy protected area.

Rural Architectural History

Borovno preserves original rural buildings, often grouped into former farmsteads. This architectural heritage includes not only individual buildings but also their arrangement in former farmyards. There are also small local atonement crosses. If you are interested in rural heritage, you can include the buildings and crosses as a distinct theme in your travel plans, alongside the landscape and trails.

Plan Your Journey and Stay

Borovno’s valuable natural and scenic surroundings and clean air create favorable conditions for leisure stays. When choosing accommodation, you can take this into account and consider whether nature and trails, the river landscape or rural architectural history will shape your stay. Borovno is served by buses; check the timetable for your travel dates.
