A hill 480 metres high southeast of the town, a Baroque castle and two chapels with their own histories offer different points of interest in Příchovice. There is also a named educational trail, a fairytale trail for children and access to the Příchovický potok. The relevant conditions can help with planning: the educational trail ends above the town, while the nativity scene in the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk is only available during a particular season.

Ticholovec and Trails

Ticholovec lies southeast of Příchovice and reaches an elevation of 480 metres. At the beginning of the 18th century, the hill was popular with local people for its spa baths, statues and romantic setting. These historical reasons for visiting differ from the specific connection to a trail today: the educational trail “Se sv. Vojtěchem okolím Přešticka” ends in Ticholovec forest above Příchovice.

If you are planning to take the educational trail, check local trail conditions. Another activity is offered by the “Stezka českých pohádek” trail: children can look for ten stones painted with fairytale motifs. The stones are planned to be moved and supplemented, so their exact arrangement may change.

Castle History and Theatre

Příchovice Castle replaced a stone castle complex from the 14th century, which was surrounded by a moat. The Baroque castle was built in 1718–1719. The two building phases can thus be distinguished: the medieval castle and the Baroque castle built later.

Today, the castle serves cultural and social purposes. It hosts classical concerts and annual theatre performances in the castle park. As dates and access may vary, it is advisable to check the information for your planned visit. The amateur theatre group Buřina revived theatre in Příchovice in 2011 and performs at the Příchovice cultural centre and in surrounding municipalities. For a specific performance, check the current date separately.

Chapels and Seasonal Reasons to Visit

The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 2006. Its doors remain open from the beginning of Advent until Epiphany. A glass door also allows visitors to see the nativity scene and the illuminated chapel interior at night. Before travelling, check the specific visiting dates and lighting arrangements.

According to a local Christmas tradition, scouts from Příchovice distribute the Bethlehem Light at the chapel on Christmas Eve. Check separately whether the event will take place in your planned year of travel. According to local tradition, the Chapel of St Anne marks the place where French soldiers found their final resting place.

By the Stream and on the Way into Town

You can descend to the Příchovický potok at the weir. Above the bridge, 15 stone steps lead to the stream. Dense vegetation now makes access to parts of the watercourse difficult; bear this in mind if you are planning a detour to the water.

A walking route of about two kilometres leads from Přeštice railway station to Příchovice. Allow for this leg when planning your journey, and check the current timetable and local trail conditions in advance. The trails, castle and chapels offer different points of interest: Ticholovec and the educational trail are about scenery and activity, while the castle and chapels tell the story of local architecture and traditions.
