Historic farmsteads, a preserved residential building and cycling routes offer various starting points for a culture- and activity-focused trip to Honezovice. In Hradišťany, a settlement belonging to Honezovice, a Marian chapel and archaeological traces add to the attractions. The themes vary in scale: individual buildings stand alongside a forest area with archaeological traces and two cycling routes with different courses.
Farmsteads and rural architectural styles
Large farmstead No. 10 holds a prominent position among the Neoclassical farmsteads in Honezovice. A nearly fully preserved agricultural farmstead is also one of the village’s distinctive architectural forms. Its residential building has an interesting floor plan and an richly decorated gable.
The rear agricultural building of the same farmstead combines a stable, dovecote and barn. This brings together two distinct architectural perspectives: the design of the residential building and the combined functions of the agricultural building. Those interested in rural architecture can use these features to understand both the form of a residential building and the varied use of an agricultural building.
East of Honezovice village square, a small log cabin stands beside the road. It is considered one of the last of its kind in the surrounding area. Its location east of the village square provides a specific landmark in the village; its rarity applies to the surrounding area, not just Honezovice.
Hradišťany and archaeological traces
In Hradišťany stands a hexagonal Marian chapel, probably built in the first half of the 19th century. A large residential building, No. 18, with a Historicist façade and an adjoining gate has also been preserved there. Historicism refers to a style that draws on older forms. The façade and adjoining gate are the specific architectural features of this residential building, while the chapel’s hexagonal shape defines its design.
In the forest about 1.5 km beyond the settlement of Hradišťany are the remains of a Slavic hillfort dating from the 10th to 11th century. It covers an area of about 2.3 ha. A burial mound field with twelve mounds was discovered about 200 m southwest of the hillfort. The two location details provide different points of reference: the approximate distance from the settlement refers to the hillfort, while the direction and distance to the burial mound field refer to the hillfort remains.
Cycling routes and forest surroundings
Cycling route No. 306 runs through the Honezovice area and continues to Kladruby and Teplá Monastery. Cycling route No. 2270 crosses the cadastral area of Honezovice. This distinction can help with your choice: Kladruby and Teplá Monastery are the named onward destinations on route No. 306, while route No. 2270 is identified by its course through the local cadastral area. Check the current signage before setting out.
In the wider Honezovice area, coniferous forests are known among mushroom pickers for being particularly fruitful. This connection with nature adds another perspective on the surroundings to the themes of architectural history and cycling. When planning your trip, you can make the forest landscape a focus in its own right, without conflating it with either of the two cycling routes.
