Nezdřev brings together a dated wayside shrine from 1692 and a landscape of ponds whose scale ranges from a single body of water to a medieval pond system. When looking for a holiday apartment in Nezdřev, these highlights can help you decide what kind of stay appeals to you: you may be especially interested in architecture and local history, or prefer to focus on water and wetlands. The picture is rounded out by a yellow-marked hiking route through the village and the history of the Tour de Oblouk cycling event.
Local history through dedication and remembrance
The Boží muka wayside shrine was built in 1692 and is the oldest surviving dated monument in Nezdřev. It was dedicated in honour and glory of Saint Andrew. The Chapel of St. Joseph provides a later point of reference: it was built in 1892 on the larger village green. Nezdřev is therefore home to two buildings dating from different periods and with different historical associations.
A memorial plaque on the chapel’s façade bears the names of men born in Nezdřev who died in the First World War, from 1914 to 1918. Alongside the building date, it provides a concrete link to local remembrance. The dedication of the wayside shrine and the names on the chapel plaque offer insight into different aspects of local history: the veneration of Saint Andrew and the remembrance of men from Nezdřev who fell in the war.
An archaeological find also forms part of the village’s history: in 1950, a grave containing three vessels was discovered at Na Pláňovech in the Nezdřev area, including a vessel with a cremation burial. Iron and bronze objects were also found. The year of discovery and the finds add an archaeological perspective on Nezdřev to the building dates of 1692 and 1892.
Ponds and wetlands
Strašil is a flow-through pond on the Hradišťský potok stream in the cadastral area of Nezdřev. It covers 21.12 hectares and lies at an altitude of 503 m, 1 km northeast of Bezděkov. It is 4 m deep, and 13 m at the dam. At the dam, it is the deepest pond in the Blatná area. The two depth figures refer to different locations and therefore do not describe the same depth.
The Nezdřev area is also home to a medieval pond system belonging to the upper part of the Blatná pond system and located mainly along tributaries of the Lomnice. The ponds form valuable aquatic and wetland habitats, particularly important for plants, molluscs and birds. This gives a sense of two different scales: the dimensions of an individual pond and the ecological significance of a pond system.
Hiking route and cycling event
Nezdřev lies on a gently uneven slope facing east. The yellow-marked TT 6716 hiking route passes through the village, connecting Pačejov railway station via Kvášňovice, Defurovy Lažany, Nová Ves and Nezdřev, and continuing to Bezděkov, Pole and Velký Pálenec. In this sequence, Nezdřev lies between Nová Ves and Bezděkov. If you include the route in your plans, check the trail conditions locally.
The Tour de Oblouk cycling event was first held in 1987; it was later moved to the first weekend in July. Individual editions and dates vary. If you would like to include an edition in your travel plans, check the specific date.
