St. George’s Church, the Slavic Hrad and the flooded quarry represent different highlights of Hradec U Stoda: architectural history, archaeology and a swimming spot. Planning also depends on your destination. A footpath leads to the quarry, while the Radbuza cycle route passes through Hradec and Hradec u Stoda railway station is part of the integrated transport system.
Church, Chapel and Viaduct
St. George’s Church dates from the 14th century and is a cultural monument. Its complex is situated on a hill in Hradec. It includes a bell tower, a rectory and two farm buildings. The ensemble thus includes not only the church building but also its associated courtyard and farm buildings.
The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk stands at a crossroads southwest of the church. A three-arch stone railway viaduct also spans the valley between Hradec and the Slavic Hrad. The church, chapel and viaduct offer distinct architectural highlights, from religious architecture to railway construction.
Archaeological Sites and Their Landscape
The Slavic Hrad is an important archaeological site. It is divided into two parts and covers about six hectares. It lies on a promontory between the Radbuza and the Touškovský potok. The site’s layout and its location between the two watercourses are among its most important features.
Another archaeological destination is the Hradec burial ground. It contains about 40 to 50 burial mounds, of which about 20 are clearly visible in a spruce and pine forest. The figures describe different aspects: the larger number refers to the size of the burial ground, while the smaller number refers to the clearly visible mounds.
The Flooded Quarry
A former quarry on the outskirts of Hradec now serves as a swimming spot. The rock face there is up to eight metres high. The flooded quarry cannot be reached by car. From the village square, a footpath leads there along the Touškovský potok; plan your visit with this access in mind.
In summer, a kiosk serving refreshments operates at the former quarry. The kiosk is therefore a seasonal amenity. When planning a visit, you can distinguish between the swimming spot, the footpath and the summer offering: swimming is the quarry’s present-day use, while the kiosk is specifically mentioned as a summer-season amenity.
Getting Around Hradec and the Surrounding Area
Hradec u Stoda railway station is part of the integrated transport system. Check your specific travel connections in advance. The Radbuza cycle route passes through Hradec; if you are cycling, check the signage and route locally. This lets you take train and cycling plans into account without assuming a particular connection or route.
For those interested in horse riding, Ranch Červený Mlýn is located nearby in Lisov. Luděk Čiba offers individual riding lessons there; participation should be arranged in advance. There are also many destinations for horseback riding in the surrounding area. This option adds a riding theme to the cultural and archaeological highlights and can be planned separately.
