Háje can be explored through several specific historical and cultural traces: the village’s history stretches from its first mention in 1379 to an acquisition in 1603. There is also a historic wayside cross, a late Baroque statue, and glimpses of community activities. When deciding on your trip, you can distinguish between these themes: local history, historic routes, and local activities.
Local history through the ages
In 1379, Háje was first mentioned as the property of Blahoslav z Řeneč. In the 15th century, Háje was mentioned as an abandoned settlement belonging to the Řenče estate. In 1603, Jáchym Loubský acquired Háje for Lukavice. These details highlight different aspects: a mention of ownership is followed by a description of the settlement’s status, and later by another specific acquisition. Looking at the village’s history stage by stage reveals these different aspects rather than just a single date.
Historic route and local cultural traces
A historic road connecting Bohemia and Bavaria passed by the Háje–Vodokrty–Osek wayside cross. At house number 1, there was a manor-owned coaching inn, a tavern on this historic route. The wayside cross combines a local landmark with a road of wider regional significance. This interplay is interesting when exploring Háje: the road draws attention to former routes, while the coaching inn points to a specific place along the way.
A late Baroque statue of sv. Jana Nepomuckého, or St. John of Nepomuk, stands at the turnoff to Osek. Its name and its classification as a late Baroque work offer two specific ways to approach it: you can identify the monument by the person depicted and place it in its art-historical period. This is a different motif in local cultural history from the historic wayside cross. Háje can therefore be explored through both former routes and an individual monument.
A dated glimpse of community activities
One example of community activities is the Easter trail on Saturday, April 26, 2025. It led through Háje via ten stations to a hidden treasure. The same event included a shared picnic with grilled sausages and treats brought by mothers. The trail stations and shared meal thus came together at this particular event, adding a glimpse of a community gathering in the village to the historical themes.
TJ Řenče also has a “Nohejbal Háje” section. If you are interested and considering taking part, check the participation options before making plans. A children’s playground in Háje was also renovated with support from the European Union. These two details add sporting and local themes to the village’s history without turning them into a fixed itinerary.
